Mississippi
There was great news delivered in all of the states that we have normally been following but mixed in with all the good news was the kind of detail that must be causing McCain strategists to open the liquor cabinet and take it without chasers.

Scott Rasmussen, no friend to Obama, delivered shocking news that Mississippi had moved 5 points.

http://www.pollster.com/polls/ms/08-ms-pres-ge-mvo.php

Obama jumped 5 points in Mississippi McCain 52 Obama 44

John McCain now leads Barack Obama 52% to 44% in Mississippi, according to a new Rasmussen Reports telephone survey in the state. In August, McCain was ahead 54% to 41%.

But the race was even closer in May and June, when McCain led by six.

Mississippi has cast its six Electoral College votes for the Republican candidate in the last seven consecutive presidential elections. In 2004, President Bush easily won the state by a 59% to 40% margin.

ARG also showed that pre debate McCain was up 16 points before the debate. Kos showed 13.

Something very very big is happening and it is being confirmed in too many polls in too many places. If the VP debates can even move another 2 points then even places like Mississippi will become must watch states although the idea that Obama could even get close in Mississippi is mind bending

Too many states in too many places by completely different pollsters - McCain is just at 52 in Mississippi.

Other state polls from today can be seen here

1. I watched Chuck Todd stumbling all over himself telling us...
...that the Quinnipiac polls, especially PA, weren't necessarily accurate - not even mentioning the CNN polls, RCP, the CBS poll, nor any of the others that came out today. But they all agree, or are in the same ballpark... so WTF, Chuck? If they agree enough, they aren't outliers.

The pundits are stunned at the movement towards Obama, which in turn stuns me. All freakin' summer, they've screeched over and over about how "the American people don't know Obama, he's a newcomer, he must tell his story, they must be able to see him as presidential!" Well, guess what, dipshits? THEY DO NOW.

3. I don't think they are ANTI Obama. They are just PRO horserace
and now they are terrified because they see all their election night ratings slipping out the window.

4. Is Obama even trying in that state?
If not, I say he should. Could help distract McCain from the battleground states if he has to blow more money on a "safe" red state, kinda like North Carolina.

7. He is trying in every state. We have a great grassroots effort
going on here. His commercials are on the air quite often and they are very good.

The numbers make me smile. :)

9. Well that's great to hear...
I like that he is putting pressure on McGrumpy. It'll be hilarious if he can narrow it down to 4 or 5 points.

8. Too many states in too many polls, and a +7 national lead means
that Rove can't steal the election. Think about it. If this is where we are on election day, turnout is mind-blowing, and the exit polls show a landslide, then they cannot get away with hacking the central vote tabulation computers and software. At that point 30 or 40 million Americans will go on strike, massive protests in all major cites with the biggest in DC, and Democratic governors seizing the voting machines / ballots for the recount. They wouldn't dare...they'd spend the rest of their lives in prison.

11. voters
In political races as in many other things, people want to go with the winning side. At some point you reach a place where some will vote a certain way so they can say they voted for the winner. The VP debate may be that point, but IMHO we will reach that point. If it happens that way the pressure will really be on the Dems. to come through with some great plans, we should not allow them any more excuses.
