Richard Viguerie: House Republican Leaders Falsely Attacked Their Own Members, Hurt Their Party's Chances in November, and Should Resign

MANASSAS, Va., Sept 30, 2008 /PRNewswire-USNewswire via COMTEX/ -- House Republican leaders reacted to yesterday's bailout vote "by giving Nancy Pelosi credit for killing the Bush-Paulson scheme, and by falsely accusing their own members of throwing a temper tantrum," said Richard A. Viguerie, Chairman of ConservativeHQ.com.

"On a day when two-thirds of House Republicans stood up to the lobbyists and special interests and fat cats -- on a day when two-thirds of House Republicans put their country first -- those courageous Republicans were attacked by their own congressional leaders," Viguerie said.
"With calls against the bailout bill coming in to both Republican and Democratic congressional offices at a ratio of 100 to 1, the bill was indeed what John Boehner called a 'crap sandwich.' Boehner, Roy Blunt, and others on their team chose to 'eat it' instead of using this as a moment to show leadership and provide a sound alternative solution."

"The incompetence of Boehner and Blunt and their team is beyond belief. For the good of their party and the good of their country, they should resign immediately from their leadership positions."

Viguerie said, "If Republican congressional leaders want to buy into a Democratic vision for a socialist America, let them do it as private citizens, not as Republican leaders."
