An example of how events move through the economy...
Edited on Mon Sep-29-08 02:48 PM by Kurt_and_Hunter
Economic shocks run around and around the world. It's not something where you see the damage the next day.

Saddam Hussein invaded Kuwait in late 1990. World markets took a dive. We went in in spring 1991, drove Iraq out of Kuwait in record time and had a big parade.

In fall 1992 GHW Bush was removed from office because of the bad economy.

The recession in 1992 was the result of the stock market shock from the 1990 invasion of Kuwait playing out. (Now that's irony!)

When stocks sell off on one day it can cause someone to be laid off almost two years later.

These things reverberate over YEARS, not days.

3. wasting your effort here and you didn't put any ***** in your subject line

Once a conflaguration like this starts there is no control at all.

All of our states, cities and school districts have now taken a major step towards bankruptcy or severe reduction of services as the asset base continues to erode away.

The 'bailout' (which it wasn't) would not only have brought the non mortgage economy back to working order it would have strengthened falling housing prices.

The good news after a couple more days of Stocks plummeting they will pass it - won't be as effective but what the hell

We are mad and want somebody to suffer even if its me!!!

Kind of a weird change of the Pogo saying

I have met the idiot who is going to really get hurt by all of this and it is me!!

4. yeah but I want those greedy mother fuckers on Wall Street to burn!
Strange times my man, far righties and lefties are celebrating. I am guessing the people celebrating are those that will be MOST impacted down the road.

6. I wonder about that...
I don't have a handle on the personal circumstances of the pro-depression set.

There has been some comical "poorer than thou" posts, but I tend to discount that kind of drama. There was a thread about how some guy was willing to feed his children saw-dust if he got the satisfaction of seeing Wall Street burn. I suspect his wife and children were not consulted on the specifics of that dietary plan.
