They are trying to ride Biden for his statement basically saying it's patriotic to pay taxes.
they are saying that's horrible to say. But we have been conditioned to believe that giving your life for your country is the ultimate show of patriotism. The bible says where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Seems to me all these good Christian Conseratives would want to prove their heart is with their country

1. Rich people don't die in wars. They save that for the poor
Rethugs and conservatives think that paying taxes and dying in wars is beneath them, that it's something that the poor and lower middle class should do.

3. Seconded.
I've never understood this kneejerk reaction to the word "taxes," anyway. No taxes = no services, no infrastructure, no nothing.

WOuld see this and rec that O himself use it.

Sometimes lately he's been a bit long winded and professor-like.

4. their faux outrage over his comment is so nauseating.
I've seen Biden spell this out before too, saying that McCain is willing to die for his country, but he isn't willing to ask wealthy people to chip in a little more for the sake of their country.

7. I always argue this with my parents.....
They are democrats but middle of the road, social democrats who bitch a lot about paying taxes and all of that.

I usually shut them up by pointing out that both of their sons chose not to serve their country or sacrifice any large portions of their life or their time in service of their country. So that if they truly believe this country is great and worth sacrificing for then the other option is that we pay for it in taxes. And just as military life and deployment and treatment aren't always particularly fair, neither are taxes. So stop bitching about it. It's part of living in this country.

12. Republicans should be ashamed of themselves.
They live of the infrastructure projects their parents and grandparents built for them and now refuse to even pay to maintain it, much less help build more.

15. Yet they talk about how they support the troops
Edited on Thu Sep-18-08 02:07 PM by jrlee2
Soldiers are making huge sacrifices, some even their lives, but we have "troop supporters" bitching about paying taxes. And always remind them that the money paying for the military doesn't come out of thin air. It comes from us.

17. AMEN!!!
This case needs to be made, over and over until it sticks. Our debt is yet another reason we are owned by China and other countries. What is patriotic about selling out our country?!
