National Enquirer: The Sarah Palins Scandals: Call of the Wild
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 02:04 PM by RamboLiberal
Republican VP candidate Sarah Palin has hushed up a series of scandals including her own brother-in-law's shocking criminal past!

After the Alaska governor was named John McCain's running mate, she disclosed her husband Todd had been arrested for drunk driving in 1986 - but not that his brother James Palin was involved in a devastating hit-and-run that inflicted multiple injuries on a female pedestrian.

Court papers obtained by The ENQUIRER show that James Palin, Sarah's brother-in-law, was busted as a 20-year-old on Feb. 15, 1989, in his Dillingham, Alaska, hometown - after a major drinking binge.

According to official records: James, in a drunken stupor, slammed into a woman with his vehicle, stopped, pulled her out from underneath it - and then callously sped away, leaving her injured on the side of the road like Alaskan road-kill!

-----

Blanche Kallstrom, Todd's mother, sued the U.S. government for negligence and took the suit all the way to the Alaska Supreme Court - which ultimately ruled against her.

The suit sprang from a series of claims and counterclaims originating from a tragic mistake in 1993 in which Blanche, Sarah's mother-in-law, accidentally served a child a lye-based detergent, thinking it was fruit juice.

28. Nobody called you trailer trash
its just an expression. Maybe DU needs a dictionary of expressions we can't use here cause someone is sure to get offended.

I get tired sometimes of trying to be PC on DU.

sometimes DU is the no fun site for all the people who get offended by every friggin' term someone uses.

Maybe we need to petition Skinner for a feature on DU we could look up terms before we post that some DU'er finds offensive.

Do you really think that someone who hangs out at DU and votes Democratic puts down poor people?

38. You are fine on it, from where I come from
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 03:56 PM by DeschutesRiver
My grandma lived in a single wide in an inner city trailer park. Most of the Okies on my dad's side did too. They weren't trailer trash, but you can bet they called out the real deal trailer trash when they saw it.

Trailer trash isn't about a place or a doublewide per se. When we were starting out and flat broke, we lived in a real tiny "house", which neighborhood was filled with "trailer trash" living in those houses. Back then taxes were high (honestly? like 60%+++), our interest rate was 14% on the stick-built home we owned, in the trailer trash neighborhood, and yeah, surprise you had to have a substantial down payment - oh, and land loans without a home on them were almost non-existent. Despite that, we saved and scraped and bought a piece of land - and the only money left over would buy a doublewide, like an old one with metal sides, coming straight out of the trailer park after the older owner didn't wake up one morning. The price was right, and like I said, one side of my family were good trailer park people.

Made quite a splash at the law firm we worked at then. Yep, couple of lawyers, but it worked for us (couldn't have afforded to build a home on acreage at that time - strapped for sure). We are far far from that now, but don't think that if an economic downturn blew our house apart, that if it made financial sense again that this old half okie, half canadian independant old woman wouldn't go put some money down on another one.

Trailer trash is, for me, a completely recognizable "state of mind". I know trailer trash when I see it, and was confident enough even when I was starting out in that doublewide to know I wasn't trailer trash. And to still call the real trailer trash down the street by its proper name. And I still call out trailer trash when I see it today.

39. And an omg to the article - her MIL served up lye detergent thinking it was fruit juice?
I am speechless. There is no way the smell wouldn't have given this away, unless you were on the tail end of a drinking binge.

What child did momma-in-law serve this concoction to? Is this MIL a working part of the Palin family posse that is now in charge of Sarah's kids while she and Todd play absentee parents?

I wouldn't raise my dog like this.

26. Interesting tidbit in Huffington on Bristol & Levi
Edited on Wed Sep-17-08 03:09 PM by RamboLiberal
At the Alaska rally for Sarah:

Second, sitting three-quarters of the way up the bleacher was Bristol Palin and her eighteen-year-old impregnator, Levi Johnston. Once I noticed them, I kept my eye on Bristol and Levi. What I learned provoked an odd empathy for the awful pickle Wasilla High School's hockey stick wielding homeboy now finds himself in.

Bristol and Levi sat shoulder-to-shoulder. But not once did they look at each other, speak to each other, or in any way acknowledge each other's physical presence. Not once. For an entire hour. Instead, Bristol stared straight ahead and Levi had the glazed look of a trapped feral animal.

Then when Sarah wound up her autograph signing and the people sitting in front of him on the bleacher began climbing down, Levi stood up and, without looking at or speaking to his betrothed, turned in the opposite direction and walked away.

What I took away from that is that the People Magazine spin about how excited the happy couple is about their upcoming nuptials and Levi's "Bristol" finger tattoo is the Karl Rovian nonsense that anyone who thinks about it for a scintilla of a second intuitively knows that it is. If McCain-Palin lose, my easy bet is that there will be no nuptials. But if they win, the hand Levi dealt himself by having had the poor luck to knock up the daughter of the Vice President of the United States (at the time who could have known?) will have to be played out.

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/donald-craig-mitchell/this-weeks-palin-primer-f_b_127074.html

I'm betting that Levi and Bristol won't get married - it's only the story till the election to make it look good.

None of these kids will be happy, and they'll make that baby miserable. I can see where you say they won't get married. But I doubt that. I think they will get married but much like the Britney Spears' sister sistuation, someone will cheat OR they'll get a divorce in 2 years time.

57. Do not underestimate the Nat. Enquirer. Honest to goodness truth...
today when I returned from volunteering at the Obama headquarters, my neighbor lady met me in the drive way with a National Enquirer in her hand. She was really upset. Now this woman is the member of a pentacostal church and she had her husband are among those people who vote the way the pastor tells them to. Needless to say, I was amazed to see them show up at the caucus and caucus for Hillary. I think she is genuinely concerned about the nation and very much has grown to dislike the Republicans. Her husband, who blasts Limbaugh on his outside radio all the time, I strongly suspect was one of the foot soldiers of Operation Chaos, based on things I have observed him to do and heard him say. Anyway, she points to the article on the Palin scandals and asked me if I had read it. I told her I had read about it. She told me I should read it and that "this woman is dirty." She said she can in no way vote for her and had encouraged her mother to vote for Obama also based on the information in this article. I went to hand her paper back to her and her husband came out of the garage. She told me to read it and I could return it to her when he wasn't around. She nodded and told me that the Enquirer ahs been right about other political stories and she didn't see any reason to question this one. It wasn't about UFOs and alien babies.

That experience was an eye-opener.
