"One of us", that's what they call her
One of who? White people in general?

She's like some mythological princess that represents the hopes and dreams of so many.

There's no way that she fits such a widely distributed demographic so evenly.

It behooves us to help along in taking the shine off of this bauble.

I think that Trooper-Gate's gonna do the deed

If not, time will have its way

1. The only thing I have in common with that cruel wacko is that we both...
...can't wait for extremist fundies to be raptured the hell out of here!

Every time I hear that phrase "one of us" I want to scream.

2. Is that what they're calling her?
That's a line from the great movie "Freaks"...all the sideshow workers chant it. It's famous.

If that goes viral...

3. We don't cotton to no strangers in this here town
The "one of us" mentality reminds me of the insular and hostile attitude of the townsfolk in an old western movie when the stranger rode through.

The Democratic Party is open to all kinds of people. The Republican Party is getting more and more close-minded.

Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 04:20 PM by Malikshah
"We accept her! We accept her! One of us! One of us! Gooble gobble, gooble gobble! One of us! One of us!"

If so, then they are channeling one of the scariest scenes in cinematic history....
Thanks for the clip above, MPK!

6. By one of us...they mean...she's just as dumb as we are!!
Americans have an unhealthy desire to see average people promoted to positions of great
authority. No one wants an average neurosurgeon or even an average carpenter, but when
it comes time to vest a man or woman with more power and responsibility than any person
has held in human history, Americans say they want a regular guy, someone just like
themselves. President Bush kept his edge on the "Who would you like to have a beer with?"
poll question in 2004, and won reelection.

This is one of the many points at which narcissism becomes indistinguishable from
masochism. Let me put it plainly: If you want someone just like you to be president of the
United States, or even vice president, you deserve whatever dysfunctional society you get.
You deserve to be poor, to see the environment despoiled, to watch your children receive a
fourth-rate education and to suffer as this country wages -- and loses -- both necessary
and unnecessary wars. Sam Harris, LA Times

9. That definitely is the reason for some.
Edited on Sun Sep-14-08 05:10 PM by RichGirl
But keep in mind Bush got in for the same reason. Cause he was like the average person...not too bright.

Obama is black and he is highly intelligent. In a country of idiotic people, that's two strikes against him!

10. An ordinary person. For me, that's a scary proposition. I don't WANT someone just like me...
running the country. I want someone MORE educated and preferably MORE intelligent than I am! And MORE knowledgeable. And MORE political and politically savvy.
