More from the Palin interview: "...you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska."
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/09/11/palins-abc-interview-stum_n_125818.html

PALIN: We have to keep our eyes on Russia. Under the leadership there.

GIBSON: What insight into Russian actions does the proximity of the state give you?

PALIN: They're our next door neighbors. And you can actually see Russia from land here in Alaska

Am I allowed to say that she is dumber than a box of rocks?!

Once I went to the top of the Eiffel tower and I learned all I needed to know about the french
Government, why I could have been VP that day.

and then once I went to the top of the fake Eiffel tower at Kingsdom Dominion and I could See DC
SO McCAIN SHOULD HAVE PICKED ME TO BE HIS RUNNING MATE!!!!

13. The Spectator weekly (the british one) had this to say
Ah, just when you pro-Republican monkeys were beginning to think that John McCain was looking a pretty good bet, he goes and chooses a backwoods polar-bear-strangling Britney Spears manqué as a running mate — a woman who appears to believe that the earth was created precisely 4,004 years ago and who, in earlier times, found the Republican Party inclined at far too shallow an angle to the right. A sort of Alaskan version of Pauline Hanson, except with a better embonpoint. These desolate wide open spaces full of biting things and stinging things always seem to push people toward the reflexive and unforgiving political right; cities, by contrast, tilt towards the left. Except Jerusalem, obviously.

And this:

You sort of wonder what they discussed, John and Sarah, at that first meeting on 28 August. Foreign affairs? Palin has absolutely no track record there whatsoever. It has been suggested that she will be very good at foreign affairs because Alaska is so near to Russia, just a short hop across the Bering Strait. So she must know what it’s like there. Cold, snowy, lots of bears, etc. Brilliant. The advantage which John McCain held over Barack Obama in terms of experience and worldliness is, at the very best, somewhat diluted by the revelation that his running mate is a complete and utter ingénue whose previous attitude to foreigners has been one of peremptory hostility.

Here's the full (hilarious) article:

21. Technically she is right, if you are looking from Little Diomede Island toward Big Diomede Island.
Edited on Thu Sep-11-08 09:56 PM by texas1928
The islands are separated by an international border and the International Date Line which is approximately 1 km (0.6 mi) from each island. At the closest distance between the Little Diomede, US and the Big Diomede, Russia, the two islands are only about 4 km (2.4 mi) apart. The small habitation on the Little Diomede Island is centered to the west side of the island at the City of Diomede.

But they are islands covered in ice. Not much going on there that really involves international relations. Still 2.4 miles is a pretty good distance.

I wonder if she can tell things about people from just touching their rings and watches, like the later Peter Hurkos said he could do. Maybe she could perform in night clubs if she doesn't get the VP gig. Condi Rice could be at the piano, playing dramatic music.
