. . . if you want to be credible, anyway.
Bush has fewer vetoes than any president in 200 years. The simple response to the claim about McCain supporting Bush so often is that Bush has signed into law almost ALL of the bills Congress has sent his way -- ergo, the Democratic Senate and House have Bush agreeing with them ALMOST ALL THE TIME.
Second item: Obama and Biden voted for the bridge to nowhere. TWICE.
McCain doesn't want to keep us in Iraq for 100 years. Besides, that meme never did gain traction. Why would you think that spinning the same bald tires on wet asphalt is going to get a new ad anywhere?
As for Palin not thinking much about Iraq, who cares? We're withdrawing troops from Iraq, and you can bet they'll be going to Afghanistan from there. Voters don't care about Iraq any more either; that ship has sailed.
Abortion: The country is divided into thirds, and has been for a long, long time. This particular concern is a wash in every election cycle. Focusing on it would distract from the real issues pointlessly.
As for managing the economy, consider that Americans might well appreciate the humility of a candidate who admits he'll need strong advisors, over against the hubris of a candidate whose claims about what he'll do with the economy are entirely lacking in such humility.
So what DOES a vice-president do? It depends. Each administration expects entirely different things of their VPs. Trot out an ad like that, and people might have their curiosity stoked enough to discover that this point is just misdirection from, again, important issues.
Not a very good set of ideas for an ad. Why, oh why, do you trot out weak, easily countered points?
