It's hard to fathom that polls reflect a true percentage of American voters that were so easily influenced by rethug smoke and mirrors, but if that's true - winning on the issues alone may not be the best way to go.

Reluctantly, I'll admit we may need to get off the high road - and pull out the brass knuckles.

We need to paint McBush as a hypocritical has-been who long ago caved in his maverick role to kiss Shrub's ass and could indeed drag our kids into another war, and we need to paint Palin as an extremist rightie wacko who believes the earth is only 10,000 years old and will infuse your most personal choices with her brand of fundamental theology. We need to get that message out in a hard punching in-your-face way!

Can we win just ON THE ISSUES, or do we need to use fear (bases on reality) to win this thing? Damn, what a shame if we have to go negative to win --- but win we must!

At this point, lets create a movie that shows the horror story of McCain/Palin - but it won't be pretty - in fact, it needs to be the thump that wakes you up at night.

2. $8/gallon
Dubya was able to quadruple gas prices in 8 years; surely McCain can double them with just 4.

5. Don't scare the shit out of them
Getting people to vote for your candidate out of fear is a recipe for disaster.

11. I'm not sure this time
Normally, I'd agree with ya Matt and I far prefer to take the noble path --- but the pukes are going to make this about stereotypes, fear, bigotry, and lies. They will stop at no untruth to slander Obama/Biden.

I don't want to play rope-a-dope only to realize 1 week from 11/4 that we held back too long. If intelligent arguments won't win it, then lets fight as dirt as they do. Too much is at stake to assume America "gets it".

6. The Issues around the economy
are frightening - focus on that... four more years of escalation of the diminished economy where even the service sector low wage jobs (think retail, restaurant, etc.)jobs are disappearing.

10. I am pretty sure McCain/Palin will accomplish that all on their own. Just keep
telling the truth. That's all we have to do.

12. McCain is a kept man who got pushed around by his party
and was forced to pick a scheming little bitch who hates her own family as his running mate.

(You want to get wishy-washy fence sitters? make it about personality.)

Intelligent people care about the issues. Fence-sitters don't, because they don't generally give a shit about anything besides themselves.

13. Those polls are based on "likely voters" from the past, where "likely" DID = repukes
So they heavily sample repukes.

I think the most recent ads that showed Shrub and McLame together (there must have been at least 5 or 6 pictures, including that one that is posted here alot with the two hugging) and repeated over and over - "The Same", "The Same", "The Same" - was a good start.

Regarding the "fear" bit - and I have posted this in a couple threads... Obama's "McLame is against abortions" ad is DEFINITELY toned towards a "fear" perspective, as it should be, emphasizing that McLame would overturn Roe v Wade. It was just short of strident, but was pretty strong.

I think those who are demanding the smack-down (and I agree that roughness is necessary) have to realize that there is smacking down going on in different regions of the country via the "local" ads. If you don't live in a specific target area, you won't see them (unless you hunt YouTube copies down or if someone posts them here).

At the "in person" level, they can float above the dreck and hurl mortal zingers - case in point was the number-of-houses thing, which threw the ENTIRE repuke strategy out of wack because they had to throw the rich VP possibilities like Romney, under the bus. Add the Dem convention and that lethal combo finished the 'pukes off by forcing them to do the hail Mary pick (which will now alienate the indies). I realize now that after our convention, they really realized that they were going to lose, so they decided to do something never done before, because what did it matter at that point? What did they have to lose? As they say, you can't kill a dead man.

At any rate, as the top of the ticket is throwing carefully targeted lethal ordinance, they can let the Carvilles and Wasserman-Schultz's and Rendells (if he would get his ass back out there and off of Fox) do the down and dirty name-calling - mainly because THEY are good at it. There's nothing more lame then someone who isn't good at the quick retorts trying to putz through it. When Carville held up the picture of the Wasilla City Hall on CNN last week calling it something that "looked like a bait shop in Southern Louisiana" - THAT is what is needed. But ONLY from someone who is EXPERT at it! I don't want to see lame... Which is why Obama doesn't need to have to do it himself if someone can crack better. And Biden can do some good ones himself but it looks like he's trying to suddenly get into the groove of campaigning again and needs some time to rev back up.
