EXTREMELY unusual. Especially compared to mothers in their forties.

http://www.ds-health.com/risk.htm Check it out. 1 in 1250 babies born to 15 to 19 year olds have Downs Syndrome. However, Palin, at her age, had a 1 in 25 to 1 in 40 chance of having a Downs Syndrome baby. That's a big snag in these theories, people.

And now I'll be getting back to chuckling at the fact that the republicans aren't even having a convention.

(Arnold can't come because of his state's "budget crisis?" Really?)

1. I do believe you said unusual. Plus how does a woman with a flat stomach ....
... go through a pregnancy when all her previous pregnancy pictures show a woman that develops a giant barrel of a stomach? Magic? Some brand new girdle?

2. Not unusual at all.
Until recently, the only factor used to identify women at high risk for DS was their age. At age 40, for example, the chance of having a baby with DS is about 1 in 100. This has led to many hospitals offering amniocentesis to women over a certain age, usually 35 or 37. The problem with this is that it only will identify 15-30% of all cases of DS; the majority still occur in women who are younger (because there are more of them having babies, even though, individually their risk is less).
