What is the one big issue for you that will not compromise on?
Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 06:17 PM by chimpsrsmarter
For me without a doubt it is female reproductive rights, i am and always will be pro choice. I have been out of the baby business for a long time but this will always be the most important issue for me. edited to add: Equal Rights as well, they aren't "Special rights", they're "Equal rights"

1. Same here. I am also out of the baby-making business, but I have daughters.
And my friends and sisters and brother have daughters, and they will have daughters.

Reproductive freedom and a woman's right to autonomy over her own body will always be a cornerstone issue for me.

8. Funny, I was just saying something similar the other day.
I was telling a friend that I won't vote along party line - I always look into a candiate or issue and decide for myself. Now, probaby 95-99% of the time, I wind up with a Dem vote, but I don't go into it with that pre-decided.

But this year, despite the fact that I will still look into every candidate and every issue, there's going to have to be a huge reason for me to not just go down the list and look for the D's. I just can't take any more of the GOP, I'm done.

If you had asked that a month ago, many would have replied, "the IWR vote."

That changed overnight in one of the more amazing attitude shifts in recent memory.

17. I think many people here understand that these decisions were based on false intelligence.
I have cut the Congress some slack, because at the time of the vote, the true colors of this regime may not have been apparent to some. I applaud those who voted against the war at the outset.

13. Access to abortion and birth control.
Not an issue for me personally at this point (it would take a lot of $ to get me pregnant at this age), but unlike many who only consider how issues affect them personally, I care a great deal about the world my younger "sisters" will be living in.

Edited on Sun Aug-31-08 06:22 PM by livedemocarticordie
Abortion and contraceptive rights. I am Catholic and have never had an abortion. However I grew in a large family and it was clear that my mother only wanted 3 or 4 and ended up with 6. She worked hard; she Loved us but she was miserable. It still breaks my heart (and yes I was the 4th)

I know at least six women who were faced with unwanted and unplanned pregancies during my years in college and after. I also have a young daughter. In a million years I never want to see a woman having a baby who does not want to have a baby. And no I do not believe that life begins at conception, no way, no how.

26. Even if life begins at conception, it does not change my opinion.
For me, the debate has NEVER been about when life begins. It has always been about whether an unborn life has rights and whether those rights trump the right of a woman to autonomy over her own body. My answer to both of those questions is no.

24. Civil Unions for same-sex couples
I realize it's unrealistic to expect most Democrats to outright support same-sex marriage at this point in time.

But there is no reason why any politician should have the audacity to ask LBGT people for their votes/support if they are going to reject basic domestic protections for two women or two men in a committed relationship.

Therefore, Democrats such as Kaine, Mongiardo, and a slew of the Conservative (often Blue Dog) Dems in Congress would never have my support at the national level.

in this case - anger management issues the like of McCain's trump any issue in my book. Calling your wife a c_ _ t in front of a room full of reporters pretty much says it all.

43. the Bill of Rights
it applies to all people, at all times. "War" does not mean it can be given up on, nor fear. Nowhere in the Constitution does it say that any part of it does not apply due to "fear of terrorism" or any similar fear.

The willingness to defend this document's principles no matter what happens.
