We cannot get complacent. Remember how at the beginning of the DNC, the pundits were repeatedly saying this race was about Obama, rather than about Bush's policies? About whether Obama was ready, rather than whether McCain had the temperment or judgment? About whether "Hillary voters" were still bitter, rather than whether Obama and Hillary's stance on the issues were far apart from those of John McCain.
Well, what makes up think that the bias will end. I expect the following themes:
1. McCain's readiness and POW experience will be emphasized without any mention of how Palin undercuts that argument.
2. 9/11, Victory in Iraq, and Russia will be repeatedly mentioned in ominous tones. Basically vote for McCain or die.
3. John McCain and Sarah Palin will repeatedly be called a Maverick without any discussion of how his proposals are virtually identical to those of Bush.
4. Palin's newness and freshness will be celebrated without any mention of her lack of substance or stance on a lot of issues, and she will be given a free pass on her lack of knowledge despite the high bar given to Obama (McCain can mess up the names and borders of countries, Obama can't).
5. Obama's readiness and celebrity status will be repeatedly mentioned without anyone noting that Palin undercuts that argument.
6. The theme of Democratic discontent will be repeated without mention that Palin is diametrically opposed to Hillary on the issues.
7. GOP Moles/"Hillary Supporters" will be interviewed pledging their support to Palin with absolutely no discussion with these people of her anti-woman discussions.
Now, I expect DUers to complain about Big Media by blaming the Obama campaign. In doing this, DUers will once again forget that Big Media is biased. Once again, no magical media strategy is going to make Fox News cover the RNC objectively.
That is why we Democrats must continue to contribute and work our a#$ off to register voters in areas where the GOP has tried to suppress voters. Even in presidential elections, more than 40% of voting ege people DO NOT EVEN VOTE. Thus, rather than trying to convince your die-hard right wing cousin to vote, try to convince the 4 out of 10 people you likely know who do not vote to vote.
