Christian News Wire. "Take that feminists"

Contact: Natalie Bell, Concerned Women for America (CWA), 202-488-7000 ext. 126

WASHINGTON, August 29 /Christian Newswire/ -- Wendy Wright, president of Concerned Women for America (CWA), released the following statement in response to Senator John McCain's choice of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his vice presidential running mate:

"Governor Palin will change the dynamics of the entire presidential race. Her admirable record of confronting corruption and living her pro-life convictions shows she is a doer, not just a talker. Sarah Palin will make history as a vice presidential candidate - and not simply because she's a woman, but because she's a woman of substance and character."

Janice Shaw Crouse, director and senior fellow of CWA's Beverly LaHaye Institute, said,

"It is particularly significant that a conservative woman was nominated for the nation's second highest office. For years the feminist movement has acknowledged for leadership only those women who embrace a radical agenda. How refreshing that now we have a woman who reflects the values of mainstream American women. Sarah Palin is pro-life, pro-marriage and pro-family. She is a woman who is balancing the personal and professional in admirable ways. She is an outstanding woman who will be an excellent role model for the nation's young people. Sarah Palin is chief among equals with American professional women; she brings the kind of balance that characterizes the high-achieving women of today. She will bring to the forefront of our cultural conversations an intelligent, realistic, well-grounded woman's perspective."

Crouse concluded: "Take that feminists -- here is a woman of accomplishment who brings a fresh face to traditional values and models the type of woman most girls want to become."

Concerned Women for America is the nation's largest public policy women's organization.

12. Do the Concerned Women for America still have a male spokesperson?
I always found it sad that they always sent a male spokesperson for TV appearances. What does that say about their view of women's roles? That they aren't capable of speaking for themselves?

4. Palin wants to break open the glass ceiling, and replace it with one of titanium right behind her.
She is a part of a movement that allows a few women to get into positions of power so that the majority will be kept in positions of subservience to their "good," "Christian" patriarchs.

Crouse concluded: "Take that feminists..."

Why do these conservative winger nutjobs think "feminist" is an expletive? What a bunch of yahoos. I bet Gloria Steinham started crying when she read that press release!

7. If she's a woman of accomplishments, then it's not a blow to feminism.
Stupid, stupid.

9. "...type of woman most girls want to become."
Yes. That is exactly what I want to be. A trophy VP selected past the stroke of midnight in a pitiful Hail Mary attempt to manipulate women in some misguided snipe-hunt and on the chauvinist assumption that all women are stupid. Yes. That is my ultimate goal in life.

No thank you. I am far more Hillary than I am Sarah.

11. OMG, they DON'T want to go there
The "anti-feminist" meme?

OK, bring it on.

After all, it's been SUCH a good issue to slander and denigrate women, hasn't it?

16. There is now way that Palin is going to fly w/all the female evangelical crowd! In many evangelical
churches, women are not even supposed to hold roles of leadership in the church. The only time it is acceptable is on an interim basis--until a man can be found. Right out of the Bible. I know - I was at such a church and not up on my Bible knowledge. But that Sunday many years ago when a little sniveling assistant minister stood in the pulpit and made that pronouncement, I got up and walked out. Ask my husband. The teacher of our current Sunday School class is starting to dance around politics, and hubby already knows that I WILL get up and walk out mid-sentence if that crap starts in church. He is a saint, bless his soul, and he knows that I mean it.

15. Sorry, but forcing rape victims to carry the baby to term
is NOT a mainstream viewpoint.

Insisting that global warming is not happening is NOT a mainstream viewpoint.

17. Exactly! Obama's platform follows the constitution, not personal beliefs!
I didn't believe in abortion for ME, but who am I to force my philosophy on someone else? AND, had I ever been raped and it resulted in a pregnancy, I would have had an abortion. Period.

It all goes back to our living in a world of gray, but the Repukes live in a world of black and white.
