Note to self:
I should make sure that my daughters know how to cook and clean and tell them to be teachers and nurses, but not doctors, lawyers, executives or God-forbid try and be president or vice-president if they have children? Perhaps I need to send Howard Dean my registration card for the democratic party back? Is this what we believe in?

Seriously, I am going to stick to the actual issues that I disagree with when it comes to the McCain/Palin ticket. She is an extreme pro-life, creationist with ties to the oil industry. Suck on that....not on her choice as a woman.

How can any pro-choice dem support abortion rights but not the rights of a woman to work if she so chooses..at the job that she chooses?

This absolutely baffles me.

1. There was one--count'em--ONE thread on that that I saw, so don't
go off on a big rant on that basis. Most DUers don't care.

4. There have been at least 10 threads on her NOT staying home to care for her child.

9. OK, the point was brought up, discussed, and nothing was concluded--
most people will pass their own judgment. I'll be damned if DUers make this woman out to be some sort of feminist martyr on this basis alone.

5. Wrong.
There have been multiple threads all morning either directly about this or that start about something else and then go right into the working mom bashing.

I've seen very little "working-mom" bashing. The only issue that seems
to be the sticking point for some on DU is the fact that this is a very young infant with developmental problems--that's not an indictment of working moms, that's just a question of judgment in choosing Palin. I juggled working part-time while my oldest was an infant, and that was tough enough. People are just projecting their own experiences onto this issue.

14. I disagree
Though there has been a focus on the fact that the child has Down's Syndrome, there has also been an indictment about her working due to the age of the infant.

Here's the ironic twist. I stayed at home after the births of each of my 5 children, gave up a professional career and can't imagine leaving such a small baby. That being said, I absolutely support other moms who want or need to go back to work...without hesitation...regardless of the age of the child.

I also have a good friend who is a physician. She has 3 children and her youngest is developmentally challenged. She continued to work after his birth and hired a wonderful caregiver who provided this little boy with good, loving care. She pumped breastmilk in her office and spent as much time as possible with him. I thought she was a good mom...and her little boy is now 11 and is doing very well.

15. I can see both sides to the argument. I don't think it's that big a deal--
it's something that voters will decide for themselves.

2. To Whom Are You Responding?
Edited on Fri Aug-29-08 12:47 PM by clear eye
Is there a post that I missed criticizing her choice because she's a woman? If there was, you really should have posted this as a reply instead of flaming the whole board with it.

3. I never knew the Democratic party demanded women stay home to nurse children.
I'm glad I learned this on the board today.

7. Say it with me: anti-choice, anti-choice, anti-choice
Sorry but I am on a personal mission to stop allowing these right-wing neocons who don't give a damn about anyone's life once they are born to take the name "pro-life".

8. She is going to use her position as a "mom" to gain votes..
I have no problem with a woman doing any job she is qualified for...and it better be for equal pay. I was a single working Mom.
BUT..VP of the US is in a category all by itself..especially for a mom of 5 children, one of whom is a special needs baby.
I believe think she is going to use her "motherhood" position, and it will be used by McSame, to gain support she does not really deserve.

10. How about she's an unqualified hack?
Who cares if she's a mom or even a woman?

She hasn't the experience to answer that 3AM phone call.

11. I see McCain's choice is already bearing fruit.
Let's band together, overreact whenever we can, and drive that wedge deeper!

12. Those idiots don't speak for the entire board or the entire party.
They are idiots.

And you are right - we have to stay with the truth: She is the same kind of "pro-life" creationist oil shill the rest of them are.
