Why was the coverage of DNC in Boston keyed on how "bad"
the convention was going to be for Bostonians while I've yet to see a single story detailing all the inconvenience for New Yorkers?

Were the Boston Dems just too dense (or pissed at Kerry) to spin the convention positively?

1. First welcomeaboard!
The hype of the traffic night mares in Boston way overestamated what actually happened, the hype about protesters was huge, the actual protests were tiny compared to usual Boston events. Only 6 people were arrested all week, Probably an all time low for Boston. Most of the media hyped "disasters" never materalized.
NYC on the other hand is going to be a protesters free for all.

2. The media tried to bully Boston into shutting down, hurting the city
and creating some dramatic stories for the talking heads to ramble about.

I was at the convention and Boston was a ghost town due to the idiot media. Of course for New York (which I'd be much more worried about than Boston) the media has been talking about peaches and cream.

3. This is MY POINT!
You just can't leave the media to do their own thing.

The Republicans understand this concept perfectly and have elevated the "care and feeding" of media to an art form. They play the media like a violin. Every Republican talking head repeats the talking points and, behind the scenes, you can be sure that there are a lot of people priming the media to purvey their message/spin.

The media tend to be lazy and pack-like. Republicans understand this concept and cater to media reps. When service and flattery don't work the Republicans resort to the stick. They use whatever punishment that they can think of to make sure that the media reps know when they've "gotten out of line."

SOMEONE in Boston should have intervened with the media once this trend of negativity started and distracted them with alternative story lines. I'll bet that a couple of cruises around the harbor with free booze/food and a gaggle of potential sources would have given the press coverage a totally different slant.
