The McCain family and Cindy's family achieved the American dream
Watching FoxNews can be entertaining.

A Repuke is carping about how the Dems are making a big deal about McCain's many houses. He went on to say how many people are trying to achieve the American dream like the McCains and Hensleys.

Oh, yeah - if only my dad could have taken the fall and gone to jail for some liquor baron like Cindy's dad, "Honest Jim" Hensley. And then gotten rewarded for it with a beer distributorship when he got out of jail. I'd have my own jet and 7 houses, too.

American dream my fat ass.

2. It seems only the Rethugs
can have the American Dream. Remember all the hell they raised about Kerry's wife and her wealth?

3. Fox is so full of it
They need to ask some real people what their "American Dream" is. I think the answers would surprise them. I know my brother and s-i-l with three kids in college this Fall, and one going in three more years, have a different answer than Cindy - everything was always given to her - McCain does. Since she thinks everyone in AZ jets around the state in their own plane. Yeah, she knows what the American Dream is.

4. Yet it was OK for them to attack Obama...
for achieving the American Dream as well? The fucking hypocrisy here from them is incredible. And just 4 years ago, you had Bush/Cheney talking shit about how much money the Kerry couple has, never mind the fact that Bush/Cheney is the wealthiest President/VP combination ever by far. Hypocrisy, plain and simple.

8. Cindy's dad's connections are about as corrupt as it gets
To equate the American Dream with how he acquired his money just shows how they rely on us being uninformed. And for the most part sadly I guess they're right. I hope her family's money history comes out one way or the other during the campaign.

9. It's the way the family got its money is the issue for me
And it's not the narrative of the American Dream.

10. Well yeah, that's a whole 'nother thing.
A degree away from McGoldigger- but interesting nonetheless.

A better example of the candidate's character may be in how
he ditched his first wife for the newer, richer, prettier model.
A real cad.

11. The deal is that the Repuke guest on Fox was saying Cindy's family achieved the A/Dream
And that so many of us would like to do it like they did. That hammered my last nerve.

how many of Marley's underlings went to prison....about fifty, right?

and there should have been NO way that crook should have been allowed to consolidate his empire, then pass it on to Cindy's daddy.

and don't EVER forget Don Bolles

these FUCKING journo POSEURS should have made it their goal to report the real facts behind the McCain fortune, in Bolles' name. whatever happened to the Arizona Project, you COWARDS?

how many know that story?

15. What I read was that Jim Hensley took the fall for Marley
Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 07:55 PM by eleny
He was supposed to never work in the liquor industry again. But that didn't matter and Marley gave him the beer distributorship.

According to this story both her father and uncle spent some time in jail. Not much but they were there and Jim, Marley's GM, was taken care of when he got out. Here's page 2 of the comprehensive Phoenix New Times story.
http://www.phoenixnewtimes.com/2000-02-17/news/haunted-by-spirits/2

Edit - Everything I read says that 52 of Marley's employees went to jail. Also, Marley was thought to have been behind the Bolles murder but nothing came of it.

Edited on Sun Aug-24-08 09:13 PM by Gabi Hayes
I read daddy either was on probation or parole, but if it's in the article, I'll buy it

it would make a good townhall question, though:

Senator, did your father in law go to jail along with his brother, or did he just get probation? and did you ever talk to Chief Justice Rehnquist about how he got him off the SECOND time?

21. "Achieved??!!" Jebus on a pogo stick...
Inheriting millions is not an "achievement." It is dumb luck.
Dumping your first wife to marry an heiress is not an "achievement." It's called being a gold digger.

Pretty much the NewSpeak you'd expect from Faux Noise.

22. One House, One Spouse
With the smart selection of Joe Biden as VP candidate by Barack Obama, there is a clear choice now for America on economics, empathy and ethics:

One House, One Spouse, Obama/Biden 08.
