1. I will pass.
The news will pick up and run what ever time the call comes.

2. Meaning what?
You don't think today's a good day to announce it? Or you don't think he'll actually announce today?

4. The timing was probably dictated by the Olympics.
I wouldn't read too much into it.

5. in the 24-hour news cycle there is no such thing as a news dump especially with the Olympics on
(which networks will interrupt to announce the selection) and the convention starting next week.

6. If he does it right he'll announce just in time for the evening news
but not leaving enough time for the GOP to coordinate their talking points.

7. Remember the GOPee's infamous "reality based" comments?
that they created their own reality?

Maybe we can't create our own reality. But we can make an announcement on a Friday afternoon without it being a "friday news dump."

Seriously, none but the geekiest will give a crap when it's announced. And yeah, we are the geekiest.

8. A story this big is immune to news-dumpery and in fact has advantages to coming on Friday...
it's still hot shit for all the Sunday political shows and all the Sunday-edition papers, while still making the headline for the final evening news of the week. Also, given that the DNC begins early next week, a Friday announcement offers a lead-in to the convention, kicking off Democratic coverage a few days early.

10. Remember John Edwards "Friday news-dump" announcement?
We couldn't STOP hearing about THAT. In the age of the 24 hour news cycle, timing of days is becoming less and less important... IMHO anyway.
