There's a video of Gore's press conference talking about it here.

4. That would be a real "I drink your milkshake" of a choice
Didn't he already do that job? I think it would be too much like when Ron Howard returned to "Happy Days".

6. Not likely. The internal continuity of Happy Days set the first season in 1955.
The Korean War ended in mid 1953. Of course the continuity of sitcoms is always flexible. In later seasons they did flashbacks to Howard Cunningham's service in WW2 and seem to have implied that he hadn't married Marion yet--except that Richie would have to have been born no later than 1941. And mind you, this was all pre-shark jump.

I probably shouldn't let such things bother me.

9. Maybe he moved to Mayberry, North Carolina
Sheriff Andy always made these cryptic references to the deputy he hired before Barney Fife and the unusal circumstances under which he disappeared--right around the time Opie's mother passed away from as yet unrevealed circumstances.

Perhaps Roger Cunningham leads us through a vast cavern of unexplored sitcom back stories. If we can only reconstruct the clues...

10. That would rock. We don't have enough bald detectives on TV these days.
And, as noted above, there are certain mysteries in Mayberry that still need to be cleared up.

And no, I don't mean the John Edwards paternity case.
