Even many Democrats, particularly when discussing their preferences for VP candidates, buy into the "Barack Obama is not experienced enough to be President so he should pick someone with foreign policy experience as his running mate" theme.
But it's not experience that is most important in determining whether someone should serve as President. It it were, then the Bush 2000 team, which featured loads of foreign policy experience (Cheney, Colin Powell, Tenet, Rice et. al), should have been able to handle just about any foreign policy issue that came up. Instead, they've made blunder after blunder and destroyed our standing throughout the world. Rather than experience, it's judgment and competence that Americans are looking for.
Bottom line. I'd like to see Obama's campaign go on the offensive even more aggressively on this point, and I'd prefer he not choose someone like Biden or Nunn for "foreign policy experience".
