Could VP Sam Nunn carry Georgia?
Obama strategist Plouffe has often mentioned the campaign's concerted effort to register 200,000+ new GA voters for the upcoming election. They really feel they can be competitive in the state. Would adding Nunn to the ticket push Obama over the top in the land of peaches?

1. I've thought this is a possibility. Nunn changed his earlier position on DADT

2. Good find. He's often been called "The Democrats' Cheney"
I.e. a foreign policy wonk without any intentions of running for higher office. A Nunn VP would give Obama the FP cred and help in a battleground state.

4. Nunn last ran for re-election in 1990.
He retired from the Senate more than a decade ago. I doubt he still has enough pull to turn Georgia blue, at least not as the #2 guy.

8. Look at the Primaries numbers. I think Georgia's in play
http://www.cnn.com/ELECTION/2008/primaries/results/state/#GA

Obama 700,366
Clinton 328,129
1 million 28 thousand Dem votes

Huckabee 326,069
McCain 303,639
Romney 289,737
Paul 27,978
947,423 repiggie votes

more than 81 thousand more Dems than rePiggies. Plus Georgia R's werent too hot for McSame.

Georgia is in play this time kiddies. They had to steal it last time for Chambliss because they were scared of Cleland. They are really scared of losing Georgia soon to the power of good over stupid.

5. I don't want that homophobic piece of **** as VP. Case closed.
He might as well choose David Duke.

Obama WILL not choose him. Trust me.

6. He changed his stand on don't ask/don't tell
To some extent, I agree with you, but if it's a strategic choice by the Obama campaign, I'd put up with it.

10. I'm voting for Obama no matter what.. but I will be FURIOUS if he chooses Nunn.
I won't rally against Obama if he chooses Nunn, because I know how important it is we win in November. But I'm gonna be really upset personally.

I'd rather him choose Lieberman, and that is saying ALOT. I'd be furious if he chose him too.

11. OK/// I decided if Obama thinks it will help him win I'm halfway ok with it.
Whatever it takes to win.

I trust Obama. I don't trust Nunn.

Obama is young. I'm not afraid of Nunn replacing Obama in midterm.

7. I live in NC. I think Nunn would help a lot here in NC and GA.
Quite frankly, he would make some of the older whites comfortable voting for Obama.

9. I'm afraid not.
I spoke with my fundi parents last night and asked if they watched the faith forum. Of course they did. Unfortunately, we didn't have the same take away.

I thought Obama was candid, thoughtful and humble in his faith. My mom thought he was deviously calculated in his answers. She doesn't trust him. My father thought Paster Rick was kind to Obama and gave Obama lots of passes.

These are old (late 70's) Southerners that vote. There is clearly some prejudice involved here. It's probably not full blown racism, but a combination of historic attitudes on race and good ole fashioned fundi judgmental hypocrisy. They only watch Faux News and are proud low-information=faith voters. Sam Nunn on the ticket would do nothing to get their vote. I doubt if JHFC himself on the Dem ticket could persuade them.

I'm all for lots of newly registered Dem voters in Georgia. However, I don't think Nunn can bring much to the Obama campaign as VP. Even if he's not exactly Grandpa McSame, he's still Grandpa stuck in the mud.
