Here's what bothers me about McCain's "cross in the sand" story
I'm afraid that McCain is showing early signs of dementia. I don't mean this in a bad way, I don't mean this to demean him. I do not mean this as a political attack. I mean this in a spirit of genuine concern.

McCain has shown for quite some time a liking for Alexander Solzhenitsyn. And it would appear that through the PTSD hell that McCain has had to endure from his time in the Hanoi Hilton, at some point Solzhenitsyn's cross in the sand story became something that McCain apparently actually thinks happened to him. I don't think McCain is intentionally lying here.

This, in and of itself is not necessarily any kind of danger sign about McCain's health. But taken together with the increasing number of gaffes, stories that change, forgetting he told the story that changed and even forgetting what he's talking about in the middle of a sentence is not good. And it's especially not good considering he has a very real chance of being the next president.

If you think they took advantage of Ronald Reagan being out of it from dementia during his second term, you ain't seen nothing yet if McCain gets elected. The neocons have used Bush essentially as a puppet, albeit a willing puppet. The crazies ran the Iran-Contra scam and caused the S&L scandal among other atrocities once Reagan was clearly checked out for good. After being emboldened as they have with Bush, just imagine what they would do with a debilitated McCain in the Oval Office.

Be very afraid.

2. I completely agree with this. I think he believes that it did happen to him, and forgets he read it

3. I agree... but either way...
He has clearly shown himself to be horrifically unsuitable to be POTUS.

4. My grandma died from Alzheimer's
It was sad and scary all at once. She couldn't remember her sons, my dad and two uncles, she would go out wandering around at night because she thought her late husband was out fishing so she'd join him, and so on. I hope, for his sake, that McCain isn't showing signs of that insidious disease.
I also hope that if he is, it is spotted, publicized and he will be stopped.

7. My grandmother had it too, and I think McCain is heading towards dementia
he needs help, not to have his finger on "the button"

I think this should be a huge issue. He was mentally broken down for 5 years in a VC POW camp. He is also old and showing temper issues.

5. Concern duly noted. Oh wait, it's okay to be concerned about this. Never mind.
I never pick the right moment to be sarcastic.

6. That's exactly why the controversy needs to be out there now....
Either he is a fucking liar and plagiarist or he is suffering from the first signs of dementia. Either way, it highlights the point he is not fit to be President.

8. Well, you know, if McCain thinks it actually happened...
that's pretty reminiscent of Reagan talking about his old movie roles as if they were things he'd really done, no?
