Do you guys and gals think anyone watched the "Faith Forum" last night.
My opinion on this is probably very egocentric but I didn't know it was on. I was excited to watch Phelps and the 41 year old female swimmer.

When someone started a thread on it I actually thought the admins were talking about adding a "Faith forum" to this website.

To be honest, I really doubt anyone that hasn't already made up their mind watched it. As for the Xtian Right or the Evangelicals are concerned, they are in the midst of an ideological split right now. Much of it due to the direction of poverty and, surprisingly, when it comes to economics a lot of them lean leftward.

I really don't think this forum is going to impact the election in any way what-so-ever.

1. Sadly it was more substantive of the candidates and issues than the MSM debates in general
Much better than ABC and CNN with Wolf Blitzer

2. The only problem here? Last night was Michael Phelps Night at the Olympics.
Edited on Sun Aug-17-08 01:17 PM by calimary
EVERYBODY knew it was his night to try and clinch that historic eighth gold medal. And track 'n' field got started last night, too. The hard-cores would have either watched the Forum and taped the Olympics or vice versa so eventually they would have seen both. I'm guessing most people watched Michael Phelps. Just a guess, really.

11. Don't Underestimate The Power & Sheer Numbers
of these folks. What's that one event they had a near the 04 election and some gazillion Christians tuned in? The numbers were mind-boggling - they are well informed about events and maybe even a tad curious about this Obama fellow. Those who distrust this Warren dude, maybe tuned it to reiterate their belief that he's not one of them.

The numbers will be out in a couple of days.

18. I would have to disagree....
the run-up to this election is going to be every bit as dirty as the 04 one was, probably worse, imo. The repubs are much more desperate than they were in 04, their candidate's campaign is in chaos, their supporters demoralized, their fundraising down, etc.

They have nothing to lose by going beyond dirty and will do so.

Those who support Obama will take them on hard and fast, as will the Obama campaign itself where appropriate.

19. I'm not saying the right ain't gonna get nasty over this
Heck, they've already had four incidents of violence or threatened violence in the south. Two of them were shootings.

As for the evangelicals?

They're all split and divided.

20. Ahhh, okay, you were referring to the evangelicals not using
ads like they did in 2004, right? I do agree they are much more divided this election than last and are not too keen on McCain so it is true they may not be all that keen on doing the attack ads previously. No argument on that from me.

7. Very few, primarily political aficionados and evangelical Christians
(political aficionado here). I agree in that it will not impact the election but what it did do, imo, is give some good soundbites for future ads by the campaigns.

It was smart for Obama to do this, imo, because he risked nothing and was able to go into greater depth about who he is and what his thoughts and beliefs are relative to the issues raised.

9. I don't think these can be used for soundbites in ads
I know with the debates both candidates agree that they are exempt for use in attack ads.

Not sure if this one applies though.

12. This would not come under the formal debate agreement...
but even if the candidates, themselves, agreed not to use anything from this forum in attack ads there is no such agreement from others who support the candidates from using clips as they see fit.

16. And they wouldn't necessarily have to be attack ads --
For example, McCain's people could run a spot of him relaying the story of him and his captor - 'two Christians worshipping together"

Me, I was at a Nats game watching them lose....again. In fact, although I frequent this board, I didn't know about it until I saw a pop-up ad on Friday night.

17. Many people have VCR's and DVR's
and it was on at least twice.

I watched it at midnight on my DVR, was able to pause and rewind to pick out the details.

I suspect it got watched and even scrutinized.

21. Saturday night, waning days of summer, I doubt it.
I believe there was nice weather in large swaths of the country too. It's unlikely this was a highly watch production.
