The difference between Obama and McCain in a nutshell...Their answers to the abortion question.
Here's Obama's response: "One thing that I'm absolutely convinced of is that there is a moral and ethical element to this issue. And, so I think anyone who tries to deny the moral difficulties and gravity of the abortion issue is not paying attention." Obama said. "I am pro-choice, I believe in Roe v. Wade, and I come to that conclusion not because I am pro-abortion, but because ultimately I don't think women make these decisions casually. They struggle with these decisions profoundly."

Here's McCain's: "I will be a pro-life president."

1. One with a thoughtful and well put response, the other response, a callous indifference
to an issue that he would have absolutely no clue as to what such entails...

If you wish it enough it will happen. Long winded poltically correct answers in a soundbyte world are a good thing.

33. Of course he is unbeatable, the only well he could lose is through foul and illegal means which
is my biggest fear, anyone voting for mcbush seriously would need his or her head examined....they are obviously ignorant beyond belief, to even attempt to imply that mcbush stand a chance by legal means is trully laughable...no reason for debates if you ask me its clear as day who is the better candidate to lead this country back on track...

are pretty much worthless in that they need others to make their decisions for them, how lazy can one be...

36. Exactly-heaven forbid you might have to think
about a candidate's answer. It's so much easier when the answer is the standard-issue republican talking point which never ever changes.

Any prochoice women who thought that they might flirt with McCain just got their marching orders.

If you want to keep Roe vs Wade there is only one candidate to vote for.

13. Your response reminds me of this time in 2004..
"Why invite negativity?" This isn't negativity. This is realism. People were all over Kerry for taking the high road and having long winded, politically correct answers carefully constructed to offend no one.

In two weeks, people will say "there's still plenty of time". That will be the next line.

John Kerry is a great guy and being thoughtful and thinking things through is a great way to govern *once* elected. But it's a horrible way to run elections in a soundbyte world. I see the exact same things going on with the Obama camp.

dollar is weak
gas prices highest ever
crazy high budget deficit
trade defiict@record levels
80% of country thinks "wrong track"
food costs rising
college tuition skyrocketing
health care skyrocketing
unpopular war

yet McCain is neck and neck with Obama. Sorry, but so far I have not seen a good campaign. Keep drinking that kool aid though.

Show me where I ever said, in the last 8 years that everything is fine.

You cannot do it. And I'll tell you why. You made that crap up. Then you shot it down.

Interestingly, this is a perfect example and a metaphor of all the other crap you've made up today in your 28 posts, or is it 29 now?

Edited on Sat Aug-16-08 11:11 PM by Median Democrat
I imagine the answers would be like this:

Here's Obama's response: "I will be a pro-choice president."

Here's McCain's: "I am right to life, but I do believe in precedent, and will not apply any litmus test to the appointment of Supreme Court justices. Rather, I will focus on merit and qualifications. I also will not apply any litmus test to appointess, and in fact have several members of my campaign who are pro-choice. In fact, several of the candidates who have mentioned for Vice-President, Tom Ridge and Joe Lieberman, are pro-choice.

The interesting thing is how those typical Republican answers that McCain gave are not where he was just a little while ago.

22. Obama's answer was a good one...I'm pro-choice for a # of reasons...
but the biggest one for me is that I have no say in the matter of what someone does w/their body. As for "late term" abortions, they are remarkably rare, and there is no such thing as "partial birth abortion", that is straight up murder as the baby would be in the birth canal.

A few years ago I was told by an anti-abortion individual that the sperm cells and eggs each possessed half a soul each, needless to say, I was incredulous, and quietly said that was ridiculous. The individual actually agreed w/me after a moment. It was if his thoughts were challenged for the first time!

McCain played to those who watched this and have already made up their minds because they are essentially single issue voters anyway. Obama, on the other hand, spoke as if he expected people to think about issues that affect the nation. No one need be "religious" to have a sense of morality, and it is far worse to claim the mantle of "morality" and then have it ripped away because it was empty in the first place.

30. Their answers to the "Evil" question was also telling
Obama basically said and I'm paraphrasing, there's evil all over the world such as Dafur, Parents abusing kids, etc, there's all kinds of acts of evil including here in the U.S. and that we can all play our part to work against evil but ultimately only god can eliminate evil from the face of the earth. McCain said yeah there is evil and I promise you my friends I'm going to chase him to the gates of hell. McCain got a loud round of applause after that simple dumb childish answer.

39. I love his answer.
It IS a tough decision for most women, and not an easy thing to go through.

Abortion should DEFINITELY be an option. And, so should birth control.

I'm so sick of assholes like McSame, flapping their gums about abortion being wrong. Sometimes, it IS the best choice for a woman, and as far as I'm concerned, men ought not to have a big say in it.

Sorry, DU guys, but it's not you who would have to carry a baby to term, and then struggle with either taking care of it, or giving it up for adoption.

The Reich Wing only cares about the fetus (and about keeping women down). Once the child is born, the couldn't care less about it, or the mother.
