Barack Obama to Open Ark. Office Soon

Barack Obama to open Ark. office soon

posted 4:34 pm Sun August 03, 2008 - Vaughn

Presumptive Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama (web|news|bio) likely will open a campaign office in Arkansas later this month.

State party chairman Bill Gwatney says the office likely would be in Little Rock. In January, the campaign for the Illinois senator opened a campaign office a half-mile away from the governor's mansion where Sen. Hillary Clinton, D-N.Y., once lived.

The office closed after the state's February 5th primary. Clinton trounced Obama in the state, carrying 70 percent of the vote in the Super Tuesday primary. Obama received 26.5 percent of the vote.

Gwatney told party members at fundraiser Saturday in Vaughn that the party should get behind Obama, as Clinton is "not the nominee."

Obama has not been to the state since September 2006 rally for Governor Beebe.

1. I read that too quickly and caught only the 'Ark' part and imagined
Barack and Michelle and Tom Daschle and Axelrod wisking giraffes and elephants up a woodn plank onto an ark.

Turns out, that wasn't what the post was about at all.
