McCain Says Martin Luther King Jr. Played the Race Card
Why else did he not vote for MLK Jr. day? Martin Luther King spoke out against racial injustice. He HAD to mention race. He HAD to talk about skin color.

Obama just predicted, based on PAST history and evidence, that the Republicans, either through McCain's campaign, the RNC, or their supporters, would try to make people scared of him based on issues surrounding race...whether by raising issues like reparations, affirmative action, etc. These issues aren't typically main points of discussion during presidential elections, but all of a sudden because a black man is running, they become issues.

Obama was just warning people. Just like MLK was warning people and talking about race.

John McCain probably HATED MLK. He probably thought MLK was a race-baiter and "trouble maker". He probably thought MLK was playing the race card on America.

John McCain VOTED AGAINST MLK day SEVERAL TIMES. He CANNOT be trusted to speak honestly and compassionately about race issues. The GOP are disgusting.

1. I think MLK had no choice BUT to play the race card.
He was fighting for basic rights that all people should have, regardless of skin color or anything else.

I don't think MLK could have made his point if he hadn't played the race card. That was a very different time in many ways, and yet we see there's still a long way to go in this country, and McBush just enforces that belief.

2. What I don't get is when did talking about race discrimination all of a sudden become playing the
race card? A black man can't talk about race discrimination without playing the race card? That is sick way of trying to squash dissent and protest about race discrimination.

4. Sometimes the truth hurts, so you have to twist it to make it a bad thing.
This country does need to focus on racial issues.

This country does need to focus on sexual preference issues.

It's ugly, because we keep telling ourselves that all is well, but the reality of it is, it is not. There are still many people who will not vote for Barack because of his skin color. It doesn't matter if he's smart, or anything else, they will put a fossil like McSame in the White House before a black man.

But no one really wants to address that. Honestly, I don't see how these people can even stand up, from all the spinning they do they've got to be dizzy.

5. I hate that phrase
It's only used by people who don't want to talk about racial discrimination as a means to diminish the speaker. Take talk of racial discrimination seriously and you might have to do something about it, like look at yourself. Call it "playing the race card" and you can say that you don't have a problem the other person does.

We seriously need to stop using that phrase.

Regards

6. Did he say that? If this is another non-Lounge "I made it up" thread that LOOKS REAL, we are not
amused. SORRY.

7. You don't have to be amused as that was not my intent.
