Has anyone complained about the New Yorker Covers on Bill and Hillary?

3. As I understand the complaint... Satire is based on truth while this cover is all based on lies....

It has been suggested that if the cover showed Rush, or some other RW nut painting the picture then it would have been OK. Then it would have shown that what was depicted was just what the RW wants people to believe, not what is actually true.


I would suggest that any and all Clinton covers, as well as all the Bush and Cheney covers have some seed of truth in them. This cover has none.




Not that I am complaining about it, just trying to understand other people's point of view. I think sunlight is the best sanitizer and this defiantly brings some things into the light.

If it were "satirizing the level of debate in the media", how come that is not stated or illustrated on the cover. There is no mention or illustration of the media. I believe if that were the case, they could have drawn a picture of people that represent the press, all with a common thought of the picture used on the cover. I believe that would have been a better illustration of satire.

Anyone walking down the street and see that cover on the newsstand is going to have that image etched into their brains. The republicans have been using the fear tactics on Obama, whether it be the angry black person, the lapel pin, or even his name -- first name sounds like Osama, middle name is Hussein.

a left leaning magazine prints a ridiculous, over the top cover of obama as a terrorist, a few weeks after the fox debate about whether the fist bump was a terrorist sign and other debates questioning the patriotism of obama.

But what I see is a photo that is reinforcing perception. 20% of America still believe Barack is muslim. I am thinking about the person who is walking down the street and have that "I knew it!" moment when they see Barack dressed in muslim attire, with the American Flag burning, a picture of Osama Bin Laden over the fireplace and the -- up until Fox News brought it up -- fist bump in a picture.

The New Yorker could have done a better job portraying their message. Regardless of what side of the isle they are coming from, that was done in poor taste.

already, among right wing groups? During the Clinton admin I remember seeing ads for the sale of toilet paper with Hillary's picture on each sheet. I am sure they did something on Foster. After all, if you remember correctly, it was Rush Limbaugh's pushing that story on the air that caused the stock market to drop several points in one day. And in the aftermath, there were "distinguished" comments from Republicans on all kinds of "concerns" about what was or wasn't in Vince Foster's briefcase after he died...

I don't know if The New Yorker has done a cover of her as such, but I've certainly seen the image, and I suspect you have to.

Spy Magazine also did a cover of her dressed as a dominatrix, but I don't know when it was from (might be quite old).

Hillary's been putting up with this BS for years and I think most people here are well aware of it.

BTW, my opinion is that protesting too much can backfire. As I do with the the so-called Fox News, my advice is not to buy the magazine. This, too, will pass.
