McSame grabs ahold of the "third rail" - proposes balancing budget on backs of seniors - SS "Reform"
Edited on Sun Jul-06-08 10:40 PM by jefferson_dem
McCain promises to balance budget
By MIKE ALLEN | 7/6/08 10:41 PM EST Text Size:

Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) plans to promise on Monday that he will balance the federal budget by the end of his first term by curbing wasteful spending and overhauling entitlement programs, including Social Security, his advisers told Politico.

The vow to take on Social Security puts McCain in a political danger zone that thwarted President Bush after he named it the top domestic priority of his second term.

McCain is making the pledge at the beginning of a week when both presidential candidates plan to devote their events to the economy, the top issue in poll after poll as voters struggle to keep their jobs and fill their gas tanks.

“In the long-term, the only way to keep the budget balanced is successful reform of the large spending pressures in Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid,” the McCain campaign says in a policy paper to be released Monday.

“The McCain administration would reserve all savings from victory in the Iraq and Afghanistan operations in the fight against Islamic extremists for reducing the deficit. Since all their costs were financed with deficit spending, all their savings must go to deficit reduction.”

3. Jeez, that sure has the earmarks of a winning campaign strategy.
What fucking planet do they live on?

This is not just bizarre, it's downright psychotic:

“The McCain administration would reserve all savings from victory in the Iraq and Afghanistan operations in the fight against Islamic extremists for reducing the deficit. Since all their costs were financed with deficit spending, all their savings must go to deficit reduction.”

5. Fuck mccain and his "entitlement" bullshit.
Stupid A$$hole.

Throw that money down the Iraqi moneypit but don't let seniors expect Social Security that they've put into their whole lives. Especially when they didn't have 401s or Pension Plans.

9. McSame's problem is he's still desperately trying to gain favor with the repuke base.
Edited on Sun Jul-06-08 11:19 PM by jefferson_dem
This will do that. The right-wing freaks will love this turd-flavored red meat. Sucks for him because he has just handed Barack a terrific talking point to use with his base and a huge wedge issue with which to carve away more moderate voters who may have been thinking about supporting McSame.

10. I could be wrong but I think it is one of
three things. 1) Either they know they are going to lose and just want to see how absolutely fucking crazy they can get and still get some people to vote for them ( for future reference ) or
2) they know they are going to lose and are just letting McCain say any damn thing that pops into his head because it is funny to watch or 3)they've rigged the election so either a or b.

Seriously, this is complete gibberish: "The McCain administration would reserve all savings from victory in the Iraq and Afghanistan operations in the fight against Islamic extremists for reducing the deficit. Since all their costs were financed with deficit spending, all their savings must go to deficit reduction.”

he dumped his disabled wife and married and super rich heiress.

I don't think most seniors have that option.

18. They're going balls out.
What the hell do they know that the rest of us don't? Because conventional wisdom tells us that any politician proposing to "reform" Social Security (i.e. privatizing) will have his or her ass handed to them come November. So, has anything changed on that front?

and try to understand what this is all about. Give me an A for effort.

I have come to the final conclusion and after careful consideration of some of the above explanations, this makes absolutely no good (keyword here) sense to me whatsoever.

Not for mclame and certainly not for those who expect to have a gov'ment pension waiting for them.

Unless of course the repub base is composed entirely of corporate retirees.

fuck with our minds so as to insure the maximum social disorder and confusion thus taking our minds off what they are really up to. And don't ask me what that is except I'm sure it involves draining away the last of our blood and money.

29. Typical back asswards thinking. I hope it sinks him. Raise the cap.
Obama has the right plan, keep SS solvent by raising the cap. I've been paying it, and worrying that it would be cut or gone by the time I needed it, for almost 40 years.

won't that just mean...there will be less deficit spending?

What am I missing here? Or does McCain we think we are that dumb?

33. Perhaps the esteemed Senator McCain could start with the
entitlement program called "The Pentagon" and reign in spending there (say cutting it by 75%) and then it might be worth looking around for other opportunities. I expect that while he is cutting SS he will still be collecting his government disability pension and will happily collect his pension from the Senate and if elected the Presidency.

The idiot is proposing to pay for tax cuts for the ridiculously rich and war without end on the backs of senior citizens. At the least, the Obama campaign should be able to push McLoser into a massive flip-flopping retraction.
