I wonder how this will go over with the fundamentalist base of party supporters

"Sen. John McCain has voiced his opposition to same-sex marriage.
WASHINGTON (CNN) –- An official from the Log Cabin Republicans organization says the group representing gay Republicans has had a series of meetings with presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain.

The meetings, however, were not disclosed to the press by the McCain campaign. An e-mail from CNN to the McCain campaign for comment was not immediately returned.

A McCain aide told The Politico's Ben Smith that a meeting between McCain and the organization "a few weeks ago" was "scheduled as a meeting with the senator … Like Sen. Obama, every single campaign-related meeting he has isn't alerted to the press."

In a statement Thursday, Log Cab Republicans President Patrick Sammon confirmed to CNN that the group had a "series of productive meetings with the campaign since Sen. McCain won the nomination—including a recent meeting with the Senator. We expect to have more conversations with the campaign as we head toward November.""

4. some rich, white gay folk don't like to pay taxes. I used to
encounter these assholes in the Connecticut chat room on gay.com. they were usually quite racist also and didn't hesitate to spew racial and ethnic slurs.

7. Some gay folk like guns and libertarianism. Some gay folk like low taxes.
Some gay folk are racist fuckwits. Some gay folk are in favor of war and bombing.

And some gay folk believe in the above more strongly than they do the notion that they are humans deserving of rights.

11. and they spend most , if not ALL, of their time bitching about
liberal gay folk and they rarely make a sound about their fellow wingnuts who are straight who hate their guts. drag queens, leather daddies and gay pride parades make them "look bad".

14. I've never understood the female black hispanic and or non-rich Republican thing either.
If people voted their own best interest the GOP would never get more than 20% of the vote, anywhere.

18. the fact that gay republicans get any attention at all
is purely for their novelty value.

As I've long said, the Log Cabiners could hold their national convention in my garage, and I wouldn't have to move my car.

McCain: Ignore the Christians and Love the Gays
By: Jacob Dawson

After John McCain ousted two prominant Christian leaders, Pastors John Hagee and Rod Parsley, from his campaign, he has now decided to seek the edorsment of the large Republican homosexual community known as the Log Cabin Republicans. A homosexual website is confirming that John McCain met with the Log Cabin Republican President. McCain made the meeting a secret by not posting it on his schedule, and not confirming the meeting, however the Log Cabin Republican President Patrick Sammon has confirmed that the meeting did take place.

So let me get things straight, John McCain rejected the endorsements of two very popular Christian leaders who stuck their neck out to win him the nomination, but now is meeting with prominant homosexual groups to gain their support. It appears to me a couple of things are happening here:

1) John McCain knows that Evangelicals are not the richest people in the world and thus if he were to reach out to them he would not raise very much money, which is needed. And homosexuals, particularly Republican homosexuals are very wealthy.*

and

2) John McCain is trying to distance himself away from Conservative Christians as much as possible. He knows that he does not line up us ideologically, and he no longer needs us to sure up the Republican nomination. Basically, he could care less about us.

But here is the problem Senator, YOU NEED US! There is no way a Republican can win the Presidency without the huge turnout from Consevative Christians.

10. Gramp's gay poilicy: Crystal clear, like all the others:
"McCain supports definition of marriage as a union between a man and a woman, but opposes a constitutional amendment banning same-sex marriage, and says individual states should decide the issue.

He also says a federal ban might be appropriate if courts overturned state marriage laws, but supports legal benefits for same-sex partners."

Right. So, who's supposed to like this, or hate this?

Ever wonder why Cindy looks so desperate all the time? She's probably waiting for him to have just one opinion about something.

15. if he supports legal benefits for same-sex partners but not marriage
wouldn't that mean he supports civil unions? Except that he doesn't?

Wow, what a confusing position. I wonder what his personal beliefs are. Something makes me think that deep down inside a LOT of educated people know in their hearts it is wrong to deny gay people the same rights as straight people... they just know they can't say it because 50% of the nation is homophobic. BUT THAT IS NOT AN EXCUSE. :(

12. Looks like John's having a lot of secret meetings. I heard on NPR today
that he had met secretly with a Latino group, and told them not to be concerned about his campaign rhetoric about immigration. Sounds kinda like a phoney to me. Let's be honest, both nominees have to contort themselves beyond all reason to cast the widest net possible. Special interest groups can be the death of a candidacy.

The anger over here about Obama and FISA is nothing compared to the fit the Freepers are having about McCain's secret meetings.

17. I know, it's apparent to me that there are elements on both sides who
are willing to sacrifice the presidency out of some purist ideology. Obama has to contend with being pulled in all directions by all the special interest groups, under our huge Democratic tent, but not everyone is gonna be satisfied. I think he's realized that he can't please all the people, and is moving forward.

McCain's problem is that the people in his party are so extreme in their views on gay and immigration issues. I, frankly, don't see how McCain manages to hold together any kind of coalition, especially among the religious right.
