Are the American people idiots?
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 09:31 AM by WI_DEM
I know that is a strong heading and certainly we are not all idiots. Ignorant may have been a better word. But this week I've spoken to several people who have been exposed to the Swift Boat Liars either from the free exposure the media has given them or some other means and some actually believe it!! Here is a man who was in Vietnam (and asked to be sent there) and was awarded medals for bravery and valor being attacked while a man who used political connections to get in the National Guard (and asked not to be sent to Vietnam) and then went AWOL in his last year in the guard and was discplined for not showing up for his physical is getting a pass!! There is something cockeyed in this country when this sort of thing is allowed to happen.

Now the new CBS poll comes out showing a very tight race and says that the Swift Boat Lies have worked!! Kerry has lost ground with Independents and with vets. I'm glad Kerry came out fighting yesterday, and brilliantly so, but I only wish he had come to the bat on this issue two weeks ago. His surrogates tried but were not as effective as the man himself and his comment to Bush, "If we are going to have a debate on Vietnam service records, I have only three words to say, 'Bring it on!' Great!! but a little too late for my liking.

I say all is fair in love, war and politics--The Chimps Vietnam record must now be scrutinized just as Kerry's has been.

2. My dad told me in an email he bought the book
Edited on Fri Aug-20-04 09:38 AM by jonnyblitz
and wanted to know if i wanted to read it. I have been drafting and revising an email in response all morning to send to him. Not sure whether to get snarky or be respectfully disagreeable. I have been brooding over this all morning. I know I will end up being snarky..because despite whatever issues I have with Kerry I plan to vote for him and encourage everybody I know to also. Being a vet this whole swift boat vet thing PISSES ME OFF to no end. I may have issues with some of Kerry's positions and how he is handling his campaign but these right wing wackos are gonna cause me to overwhelmingly support Kerry mostly out of sympathy if for no other reason. they are complete assholes and a disgrace to the veteran community.

tough promise to keep, but it might be worth it.

5. By choice, yes.
I know most Americans aren't stupid. I think they are most gullible when it comes to the media, almost retarded when it comes to politics, but very intelligent when it comes to things that they feel directly affect them.

However there are people in this country so stupid it is mind-boggling. Anyone who listens to Fox News, Hannity or Rush is choosing to be a fucking idiot. I also think this 'born-again' BS has fucked up our country bigtime, and has taught people how NOT to use their brains or take responsibility for their own actions.

6. people will believe anything on tv
which is why we need some really, really, dirty ads to air in the month of September once Bush comes out of his post-convention cocoon.

8. A narrow minority are...................
meaning a narrow majority aren't. The narrow minority is the target of the Republicans, they don't want or can't think for themselves and will believe anything they're told. Welcome to Bush America.

10. This seems to be the eternal question on DU!

I think it is just so hard for we who actually reason things out based on the evidence and facts that so many choose to be led obligingly into the abyss. The rightwing spinmeisters know that people are generally lazy and braintired, if not dead. They'd rather have the loudest and shrillest voice, regardless of its message, make the hard decisions. It's gonna have to get a whole lot worse in this country before most folks are uncomfortable enough to demand and fight for change. I've just about had it. Probably won't be posting much anymore, because I'm so freaked out about our entire political quagmire. I don't know if Kerry will pull this one off or not. But until we totally alter the way elections are conducted in this country we'll be facing the same propaganda machine and the same dumb idiots who blindly accept its lies. If he wins, Kerry will be fighting an uphill battle his entire presidency. I find it a nere miracle that wonderful individuals like Kerry, Dean, Clark, Kucinich etc. are willing to take on such a villanous system.
