Barack Obama's faux presidential seal bites the dust
Edited on Mon Jun-23-08 07:11 PM by GoldieAZ49
So much for that presidential-looking seal on the front of the lectern during a Barack Obama appearance Friday in Chicago.

Widely mocked (here, here and here, to cite but a few of the items that wryly took note it), the intrepid Marc Ambinder of TheAtlantic.com reports that the insignia will be consigned to some closet to gather dust.

He writes: "I'm told that Obama recognizes that it was a silly mistake, that the universal reaction at (his Chicago headquarters) was, "Boy, was that dumb.' "

We doubt there will be much argument with that conclusion.

Ambinder's full post can be read here.

25. Since when are things on DU discussed once, or even twice?
I see late breaking stories posted multiple times, stories posted in the morning with the same story posted in the afternoon and then again that night like it was never heard of before. Then, for good measure, it is posted again the next day.

11. of course! Also the second article has comments from the McCain camp

Snarked John McCain spokesman Tucker Bounds, "I think we can all agree that we need presidential candidates that are serious enough not to play make-believe on the campaign trail."
"It's laughable, ridiculous, preposterous and revealing all at the same time," Bounds said.

This isn't a one sided race, if it was it wouldn't matter what voters think say do or vote. Kinda like countries run by dictators.

29. Bounds needs a thesauras. "laughable, ridiculous, preposterous, revealing..."
If that's the best John McCain's "spokesman" can do, break out the ink and start inscribing Obama's name in the history books now.

He left off stupefying, wicked, naughty, non-culinary...

Powder blue is not a power color and a very icky marketing choice.

27. A little unsettling that he'd want to remake the Presidential Seal in his campaign's image
to begin with.

Glad it's gone but why was it there to start with?

How naive would you have to be not to access marketing venues?

lol

Really, to listen to you former Hillary people, you'd think Obama invented teevee.

Slapping his campaign logo on just doesn't seem right.

33. Why not? is there a rule? Might be a good thing that you are "unsettled"......
as that is your normal mentality anyhow.

I didn't like the seal, but the question that you are asking as to why is nonsense, and you know it.

But whatever floats your boat, in order to keep you "unsettled" is gravy for me.

37. Am I not allowed to have an opinion?
Evidently enough people felt the way that I did that he decided to scrap it.

It is the official seal of the president of the United States.

Read up on it here if you like: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seal_of_the_President_of_the_United_States

It evidently hasn't been changed since 1945.

It seems tacky, to me, to take a symbol of the US and remake it into a campaign design.

Jesus. Am I allowed to have that opinion?

39. Yes, you are. Ignore the anti-democratic types who think you aren't.
They look especially silly defending something that Obama's staff had the sense to dump.

That seal was being criticized here by lots of DUers, many of them people who'd been Obama supporters during the primary race, before his campaign decided to get rid of it. It's perfectly okay to say you didn't like it. The seal was a mistake, it invited ridicule, and it's a good thing it's been scrapped.
