CNN- Are We Really Going To Storm The Inam Ali Mosque?
It's the holiest mosque in Shia Islam...

There's women and children in the mosque...

I hope this isn't a repeat of Waco....

What a debacle it will be if that mosque is destroyed....

It will poison realtions for a generation....

1. I keep thinking
that Sadr sees this as the Shi'a version of The Alamo.

It will become legendary in the Shi'a tradition for generations and Sadr will be their version of Davy Crockett......

We haven't been very smart in any of this......no matter what you may think of Sadr, there had to be a better way to handle it.

3. You are right...this is in his lap..
he is playing this game because he knows we don't want to destroy the shrine. If he forces our hand then we look bad.

8. You make a very good point. I had not thought of it that
way, but I you are probably right.

What a sorry role we play here.

4. I just read that it was reported that he has written a letter
to al-Sistani's representatives offering to turn control of the mosque back over to them. Very smart, by al-Sistani's people taking control of the mosque, then anyone attacking the mosque is attacking the leader of the Shia movement in Iraq, not just a "firebrand cleric". Furthermore, he refused to disband the militia, saying it wasn't his, but Ali's, directly tying the fighters to the revered Muslim. This guy is a lot smarter than anyone has given him credit for.
