My prediction for September 1, 2004 regarding Zell Miller
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 02:26 PM by Walt Starr
On September 1, 2004, Zell Miller will take the stage in the Republican National Convention.

Now, there are some rules regarding the delegates and the nomination process for the RNC. Any Republican Senator is a super delegate to the convention and has a vote, and only delegates are allowed to make motions.

It logically follows that while on stage, in national prime-time television, Zell Miller will officially renounce his membership in the Democratic Party and announce his membership in the Republican Party. At that instant, Zell Miller becomes a super delegate to the Republican National Convention and has the right to place into nomination the name of a candidate for the presidency.

Zell Miller will switch parties on stage at the RNC. There can be no doubts.

1. i think you're right
we have to wonder about miller's morale fiber. Shrub has started an illegal war and zell jumps his lifelong party to join up with Bush.

4. If the DNC follows their by-laws, they can pre-empt it
He'll lose his status as a member of the Democratic Party on August 28th.

6. Not gonna happen
Edited on Thu Aug-19-04 02:34 PM by Comicstripper
the only reason miller is up there is that he's a democrat. if he's on their side, the GOP can claim support from the dems, seemingly destroying their image of "unity". if miller turns republican, they have no use for him. he's just another pro-bush republican.

10. But WE got a fair bit of use out of Jim Jeffords
Nobody hears about him any more, but he was front-page news for more weeks then there will be left to the election. This would add a whole level of stories to the news cycle.

I'm not sure it would help the problem.

13. Jeffords never became a Dem though

True that he caucused with Dems...he still never "joined the other side" per se.

14. Right..... And?
Wouldn't that make actually JOINING the other side even MORE newsworthy?

BTW, Jeffords has slipped once or twice and talked about "why I joined the Democratic Party... I mean, became independent"

12. Then he can't nominate Bush
Only delegates can nominate, and as a Democrat, Zell ain't no RNC delegate.

8. I think you're right...
I hope our spokespeople start stealing his thunder right away. They should go on talk shows and express that since Zell has been acting like a Republican we fully expect him to declare himself one at the GOP convention.
