Barr wants to add a third wheel to any Obama-McCain debates
About those 10 debates that Republican presidential nominee John McCain has pitched to Democratic rival Barack Obama.

Bob Barr wants a piece of the action.

In an announcement posted on Third Party Watch — Richard Viguerie, publisher of the web site, is a Barr ally — the Libertarian presidential candidate says he should be a part of staged confrontations between the Democrat and the Republican.

“It is time for the American people to see a clash of ideas as well as of candidates,” Barr is quoted as saying.

We ought to push to get Bob Barr invited to the debates.

He could have a similar impact as Ron Paul and perhaps take some of McCain's voters away from him.

11. Many are predicting that Obama will take 40 plus percent.
You want to give those votes up? Really?

:-)

But a big chunk of the other 60 (minus) percent could go to Bob Barr.

2. Sure, Barr would help, but that opens the door for Nader.
Not that I think they both shouldn't be in there; they should. But there's no way the two parties will allow it.

4. And Cynthia McKinney.
She will be the Green's pick. Nader is Indy, and Barr the Libertarian.

7. Nader is a non-entity. Even the people who supported him in the
past don't pay any attention to him anymore!

18. There's still no rationale for letting in Barr but not other 3rd party candidates. /nt

21. So let them both in. Who cares? Obama can handle all of them
with no problem. Even with four in the debate, Nader will look like the nut, Barr will gain some pubs, and McNut will look like the idiot!

5. ABSOLUTELY! Let him in!
He'll say batshit insane things and McCain will have a choice

- Disagree with Barr and lose Batshit insane votes
- Agree with Barr and lose less crazy votes

6. Barr would need to get a significant amount of support...
at least 10%, but likely won't happen.

Now, if he kicks up enough of a fuss, then some might relent. I'd welcome him with open arms

14. I'm not all that worried about Nader this time around...
I think Obama's strong enough for it not to be an issue. Not only that, Nader couldn't come close to getting enough support...not after he took repuke money in 2004.

16. I think Barr could appeal to a lot of Republicans who plan to "hold their nose" and vote McCain
With that in mind, I think that getting him some press would help to weaken McCain a bit.

17. He's polling 10% in GA
I thought the national threshold to be included in the debates was 5%?

19. Hmm...I thought it had to be at least in the double digits like 10%, but I could be wrong...
Now, all we need is a debate in Georgia :smoke:

15. There will be plenty of clashes of ideas between Obama and McCain, thankyouverymuch.
Barack Obama will thoroughly pwn John McCain in these coming debates, and any distractions by a third participant, however nutty he may be, will only dilute the effect. Keep it one-on-one.
