The guy is a conservative.... but he's not a neocon, and he generally calls it like he sees it.

He's dead on here, about how picking Hillary would diminish Obama:

1. George Will stole Jimmy Carter's playbook from his team and gave it to Reagan
I trust very little of what he says or writes.

I think Clinton would make a bad VP but not because of anything I read in Will's column.

2. I know it was stolen... but George Will? He wasn't even part of the Reagan team in '80, was he?

3. You must be a young 'un...
Will was a paid consultant to the Reagan Campaign, while simultaneously providing commentary to the news programs and writing his column. He didn't tell anybody about this status.

4. No, he was a journalist which is how he gained access to it

A paid journalist, but a journalist nonetheless.

And he handed it over to Reagan.

Adding: it was seen by several people.

9. He makes some good observations; as conservatives go, Will is probably the most intelligent.
Of course this may be personal: I actually met Mr. Will once when he gave an address on our campus. It was a bipartisan gathering of College Republicans and College Democrats, and I was an officer in the latter. Polite, gracious man in person, if a bit reserved. Gave a speech about "Tory Conservatism" or something like that, IIRC.

This column was one of his better offerings, if still larded with reactionary tropes.

13. I agree. While I often see him indulging in bizarre contortions for the sake of ideology,
... with an abundance of inflated self-esteem, I sometimes see a degree of candor that's respectable, even if blanketed by his inflated rhetoric. This particular essay is, imho, of the latter kind. I find myself in grudging agreement.

10. straight from the Team Obama talking points
The secret was already revealed on national television. Team Obama is working to frame the Clintons as old and out of touch. It's interesting where those talking points are showing up here and there. I guess George Will bought it.

16. Who Was the Best VP Over the Last Few Decades?
I would have to say Al Gore, who violated all the rules of blalance in candidate selection. So I hope Obama is choosing a person rather than a set of demographics.
