Gov. Richardson on Lou Dobbs' show.
Although I understand the low opinion many here have of Mr. Dobbs, his interview with Gov. Richardson this afternoon demonstrated why Richardson would not be a good candidate for VP.

As Dobbs confronted him again and again on the topic of the border fence and immigration Richardson couldn't go past the talking points he had come prepared with. He stuttered, and avoided the issues Dobbs was bringing up by awkwardly returning to his prepared material. Avoiding the issues is fine, but you have to do so gracefully. He would be slaughtered in the VP debates and press ops.

Although I have two preferred choices for his VP pick, (Hillary or Biden), he would be wise to pick someone more comfortable with confrontation and more agile verbally.

1. Thanks. This is one of the issues I have with Richardson.

He is a bumbler.

Same with Wes Clark.

edit: You're right Biden and Clinton are both adept verbally and would make good attack dogs.

2. Clark always had the FOX jocks talking in circles when he went up against them
It didn't matter if they outnumbered him two to one. There's lots of videos of Clark winning those confrontations, hands down. The man has a quick learning curve and he showed it. His 2004 campaign was his debut in politics, one shouldn't judge his ability mainly on that.

7. I wasn't paying any attention to the primaries in 2004
So I didn't see the progression with Clark, but it makes sense. The problem is that Richardson has been in politics forever, and he's still not any good at debates. It's as if he's shocked when someone won't follow his game plan.

4. :) Don't worry - she's not even in the same state as the list of all of the options....
The Secret Service won't allow it.

12. At least you guys aren't being mean about it. Thank you.
:)

Of course, as a Hillary supporter, I would like it very much.

But Biden would satisfy me. I think he has qualities that would help Obama a great deal.

assassination anyone? obliteration anyone? hard working white people anyone?
Tuzla lies?

Hillary is always saying something awful and then blaming others for it.

9. Poor man.
And I don't think his new look is particularly flattering. The beard and the sports coats don't give the impression of "elder statesman" that I think Obama would need. He looks more like a newly divorced man trying out a supposedly cool look to attract a new mate.

15. I acknowledge your opinion of Mr. Dobbs.
The point isn't Dobbs' character, the point is that Dobbs ran Richardson around in a circle.

I'm assuming that the GOP VP candidate will not have a good character either, but if he's even halfway decent at debates, Richardson will show poorly.

16. Richardson is cabinet material, not VP. Not in his wildest choice of dreams.

19. Those are his wild dreams, I fear.
Earlier in the primary season he said he was running to be President not a cabinet member. i imagine that VP would be preferable to him.

21. Me too.
In fact I do kinda like him, just not on the stage.

Actually back when it was "safe" to post about Hillary, ;) and while Richardson was still in the debates, I got all excited and posted about how neat it would be if Richardson were to be her VP. I got slapped down (basically told I was an idiot) about his debate deficiency, I got snarky about that, but paid attention and had to acknowledge that it was true.

He seems sweet, and kind and idealistic, and I think he was good at his cabinet post with the Clintons but he just trips over his mouth.
