The environment that favors the Republicans in the fall ?
It is not a calm, rational environment. It is not an environment that discusses our problems in a sensible and logical manner. That environment would favor the Democratic Party.

But, if the Republicans can create a "divide and conquer" environment, with personal attacks that force their supporters to take sides based on political party or propaganda, then they win. If they can convince enough people that the Democrats will "surrender" against the terrorists, that they are weak on defense, that they will raise your taxes, that Democrats cannot be trusted to look out for the American people, then the Republicans win.

So, it seems to me that it is to our advantage if we can control our environment better than the Republicans? We do not do that with a tit-for-tat with John McCain. We do that by explaining in a calm and factual way how we got to where we are today. The Republicans were in charge when we were attacked in 2001. They have weakened our military. They have made us less safe around the world. They have created such a huge debt that our children and grandchildren will be burdened with this "tax" for generations to come. Don't look at what they say - look at what they have done. That is the environment we must create for the voters.

2. Yes, this mess belongs to the GOP. They created it.
We must make them OWN IT this fall.

It's not what the Democrats will do, it's what the GOP HAS DONE.

Soaring gas prices.

Choking debt.

Lies.

Corruption.

Torture.

Spying.

Cronyism.

New Orleans.

Decaying infrastructure here at home, putting our safety at risk.

Failure to protect the homeland prior to 9/11/2001.

Runaway corporate profits (mostly oil companies and corporations with NO BID, guaranteed profit military contracts).

Two stolen elections.

What does it take, America? Talk about terrorism! We've got that right now with the Republicans. :eyes:

3. For example, McCain says Obama has wanted to "surrender" for a long time..
He is quoted today as saying that Obama wants to "surrender". How should Obama respond to that without entering the environment that McCain and the Repubs want? First of all, he should define the issue in his own words. This war was a mistake from the beginning. The Republicans can put as much lipstick as they want on this pig and it is still a pig. Our military is over-burdened and stretched to the limit. Our nation needs the money we are spending in Iraq. Mr McCain has said it is OK with him if we stay there for a 100 years. Well, that is not OK with us or the American people.
