I do understand why tensions are running high on DU. Everybody is frustrated about the state of this country and the primary season is running too long with way too much on the line.

The republican primary also wrapped up fairly quickly and there are some rethugs on DU who are contributing to the meanness.

There was never a DU Golden Age.

The 2004 primaries were brutal in their own right. The admins actually had to create threads in which only positive things could be said about a candidate - "The Daily Democrat". Members who did not comply with the instructions for those threads were banned.

Yes, DU was smaller, there was a sense of "us against them", especially as Bush's approval was still in the 55-65% range through 2003 or so, and therefore, a sense of intimacy that was lost because of the post-2004 growth.

But DU was never some idealized or romantic utopia. Nor should it be. It's an activist, discussion, and news forum for Democrats and like-minded people opposed to Bush, Republicans, and others of the neo-con ilk. Messy it is, and messy shall it always be.

BTW to whoever posted that video, Ron Paul is as much a racist for knowing racists as Obama is a terrorist for knowing William Ayers. Stop with the Ron Paul is a racist shit, it's not true at all. He supports equal rights and an end to the drug war that hurts mostly minorities. There is no quote of him hating on blacks or minorities anywhere. So stop with that shit, please.

I think Ron Paul is wrong, however, for wanting to rollback affirmative action. Obviously I disagree with him on a lot of shit and will be voting for Obama in the election but you're no better than those spreading the "Obama is a muslim" emails by calling him a racist.
