Poll question: Why did you choose to support Barack Obama ?
Pick one that is close to your thinking or one of your own?

1. Process of elimination.
Kucinich was my first choice, then Edwards. When left with Clinton & Obama, I reluctantly chose him. Then I read his books, and studied up a bit, and realized he's the real thing. I now wholeheartedly support him.

3. It's helpful to remember...
That Hillary had a lead over Obama with black voters when this campaign began. When black voters saw that he was the real deal and actually had a chance to win the nomination, they switched to Obama.

2. Basically, I chose him because he is the more
forward-looking candidate of the two...

Clinton is way too much of a hawk for me, and I just have too many issues to want her as President.

However:

I will support either of them! I will support whoever is our nominee.

8. Combination of factors:
Because we need change;
Because he is so inspirational and intelligent;
Because we must go forward, not backward;
Because he has a mind like a steel trap;
AND a gut feeling that he is best for the country.

For me it was mostly a choice between him and Clinton. I had my doubts about him for a while, but came to the conclusion like a month before Iowa that he was the most electable, and winning this election is the #1 most important thing to me.

I tried to support both of them. Then came the 3am ad, the "experience" speech, the "shame on you" speech and a host of other weird little right wing tactics. Once I heard those the decision was pretty easy.

14. OTHER

This article illustrates some of the challenges Obama encountered in Chicago.
He has the unique ability to truly unite different political factions. The challenges
we are facing as a country are overwhelming and he is the one person capable
of getting all sides to work together. This is where the hope for a productive
future lies.

18. I picked him after his foreign policy speech last August
It's easy for a politician to say they're for good things. Do you believe in equal opportunity for all, affordable and reliable health care, and books instead of bombs? Of course you do.

The military situations in Afghanistan and Pakistan is a treacherous, complex issue, but one that the next president will have to deal with and make tough decisions about. When Obama advanced his position, took the ignorant criticisms and dishonest distortions that came from both left and right, and stuck with his position, I knew he had the wisdom and strength required to be a commander-in-chief.

22. Because people were too sheep-like to put Biden in the final contests.
Biden was our strongest candidate this year. As with Wes Clark in 2004, party voters chose to follow media hype ginned up by Washington insiders rather than select the best contender and the most capable leader available among the aspiring candidates.

I supported Biden, then Edwards, and by the time of the primary, we were down to Clinton and Obama. I wasn't thrilled with either, but chose Clinton for a number of reasons. Now that Obama has it won-by any sensible measure that doesn't require lengthy justifications and mental calisthenics, I support him.

43. Because he's not a Clinton.
Although I think that Obama is hardly a radical, or even much of liberal, he does offer an opportunity for the left to have their voices heard and exert some influence, rather than be dismissed as having nowhere else to go.

The Clintons "triangulated" a moderately left party to a moderately right party in the name of electoral success. They sacrificed what few principles remained in the name of "practical politics" and decried the "too liberal", "activist", elements of the party as unrealistic idealists.

They have transformed the Democratic Party into corporation bent only on achieving the bottom line of victory at any cost.

They have appealed the basest instincts of the electorate. Racism, nationalism, greed, fear.

They are the discredited politics of "not as bad" as the Republicans.

made great decisions---his voting record and his views are congruent with his policy--- while in the State as well as the Federal Government. Planned a brilliant campaign against a giant presumptive nominee in the Democratic Party and, if not beat her checked her over and over.

Didn't use the slime politics that his opponent did.

AND he isn't the Washington Establishment.

AND 28 - 32 years of two families in the White House just doesn't seem Democratic.
