Historic Avg. # of Campaign Contributors in Dem Primary?

Remember a lot of talk about Obama breaking the million mark for campaign contributors, but I've never been able to put it into context.

Where can I find the total number of contributors for this year's candidates and total money raised?

What about historical numbers?

Thanks.

1. Tough number to come by...
There appear to be a couple of scholarly articles on the subject, but you have to subscribe in order the read them.

I've found one indication that Howard Dean had approximately 625,000 contributors, but that was an extrapolation $50m raised at an average of $80 per donor. I did find an old Joe Trippi blog entry where he talked about the possibility of energizing 1 million contributors for the General Election.

2. Thanks. Just that everyone mentions
what an awesome number of contributors Obama has and I keep wondering--how awesome?

I read somewhere that his donor list may be bigger than the DNC's but I couldn't really figure out what that meant.

3. Bigger than the DNC may be an exaggeration...
but it dwarfs any individual candidate donor list. If every Obama donor gives another $50, he'll have enough to finance the GE.

4. The DNC/DSCC/DCCC would trade Bill's organs to get their paws on Obama's donor list.
You'd better believe it.

5. I do. Think he'll hit 2 million donors?

Seems out of reach to me, but maybe...
