Clinton rally in Florida 'coincidental'

By Anna Scott and Jeremy Wallace
May 21, 2008 at 4:30 a.m.

Barack Obama was supposed to have Florida all to himself today.

His event at the St. Pete Times Forum marks his first public campaigning here in more than 250 days, signaling, according to the state Democratic Party chairman, the start of the general election campaign against Republican John McCain.

.....

Clinton, who has embraced Tom Petty's "Won't Back Down" as her campaign theme song, said late Monday that she, too, is coming here today. She will hold her first Florida public rally in eight months in Boca Raton -- at the same time as Obama's rally.
The Clinton campaign described the timing of the headline-stealing rally as "purely coincidental."
"Whatever people say, this election is not over yet," said Ana Cruz, a Democratic Party consultant in Tampa who is supporting Clinton.

.....

Some Florida Democrats said they saw Clinton's last-minute stop in Florida on the same day Obama arrived as more than a coincidence..
"It's both crazy and admirable," said Bryan Worthington of Venice, president of the Suncoast Stonewall Democrats, a group that supports gay political causes. "She's trying to one-up him. That's the game they play in politics, and I can't say it's an adult game."

.....

Obama supporters reacted politely to news of Clinton's visit, underscoring their belief that she is no longer a threat.
"She's a candidate and she has every right to campaign where she wants," said Frank Sanchez, a Tampa businessman and adviser to Obama.

Sigh.

2. She can do what she wants. If Obama presents Gore or Pelosi it will not matter.

Democratic presidential candidates Barack Obama and Hillary Rodham Clinton will both be in Florida on Wednesday after avoiding the state since last fall.

.....

Both candidates signed a pledge nine months ago that kept them from campaigning here before the Jan. 29 primary. Other than a rally Clinton held after polls closed that night, neither candidate has campaigned here since the DNC stripped Florida of its delegates in September because its primary was held before Feb. 5.

10. This is getting ridiculous and harmful.
I feel the worst for her supporters who keep giving her useless money as she feeds them false hope.
