Obama's rally in Portland compared to Hillary's in Salem - tells all imo - it's over HC
Edited on Mon May-19-08 01:49 PM by Patmccccc
I live in Salem. I saw the small crowd at our waterfront. Our local paper (the Statesman Journal) had the head count at about 1200, I don't think it was near that much. Wish I would have taken pics of the Salem HC rally. Has there been any in here?

75,000 + (NOT an exageration either)
vs
1200

Turn out the lights HC

Why isn't there more talk about this massive difference? Worries me... the other thing that concerns me is the reluctance to claim victory by Obama... I remember Randi saying this on the night * stole office, "Don't worry everyone it's all going to be okay (IT WASN'T!!) I also will never forget Kerry stepping down the next morning (admittedly TOO EARLY!). IMO No second chances. I feel Obama is already giving her too many chances. They will pull something (something is in the works for sure, you can feel it).

1. I'm not worried. He's being gracious and giving her some room to
pick her moment. She has the right to stay in until the last primary, regardless of how silly it might make her look.

2. Is she REALLY picking a moment?
Or is she still waiting for something BIG to happen? Nice guys finish last.

4. Something BIG is going to happen, in Oregon tomorrow. I think
she's either not getting good advice, or has this need to go to the bitter end.

But she will be picking a moment, sooner rather than later-imo. Clinton's going to have to start mending some bridges soon.

5. probably the most unreported
and most remarkable stat is the 3500 in Pendleton for Obama. This is amazing. That is the heart of red country. We couldn't even get a democratic organization over there till 2004.

6. Rallies are undemocratic. They don't count.
Hillary's supporters - the elderly and the hard-working - do not have the luxury of going to rallies.

Obama's supporters just take a day off if they feel like it to soak up the sun and the fun on the river bank, just like going to an expensive rock concert.

:sarcasm:

11. I also heard there was a Starbucks opening house nearby
so all those latte liberals were already roaming around next door.

7. some of us find mass rallies centered around a single personality to be creepy and scary. there is
something not rational going on when 75K people show up to see a half-term senator from illinois that most of them never even heard of a year ago. if there was a similarly unqualified repug candidate drawing those kind of crowds, every person here would be remarking on the scary demagoguery and the fact that all those people were members of a cult of personality. well... if the shoe fits.

8. What scares me is people who vote based on gender, such as yourself (judging by your name).

9. i'm sorry, open a history book, please. here's a hint: "votes" is a noun. jumped to conclusions,
didn't you? everything comes down to race and gender in the O camp. see how well that works in nov.

13. Whether it's a noun or a verb, your screenname still makes your previous post look
hypocritical.

15. you just love to entrap people with this noun v verb crap dont you
i've seen this identical thread maybe 10 times where you lash out at the people who read your name wrong. each post is bristling with incredible outrage and you insult the poster for their (lack of) intelligence

if you asked 100 people to read your screen name, about 99 of them would believe that you use somebody's gender as a basis for who to vote for in an election.

wouldn't it be easier to get a new name or do you enjoy making innocuous posts hoping that somebody will say something negative about your name, at which time you can ATTACK (!) them over the ludicrous idea that a hillary supporter named "votesforwomen" is voting for her based on the fact that she's a woman.

who are taking action in the political process and getting interested is just... weird. It's more normal to sit at home in front of the TV and/or snark away all day on an internet message board.

:eyes:

Oh, by the way -- Freepers yesterday were comparing that rally to Nuremberg. Thanks for making it clear just where your ideologies stem from.

I think it's exciting that there was a political rally for a Democrat drawing 75k people.

17. Actually amoung that crowd you will find thousands of Veterans.
Veterans of the Pre-Iraq invasion protests in the streets of Portland. One of the few places in the country where a huge number of people had it right from the beginning. People who were aware and appalled at Hillary voting for the IWR. People aware of her continued support for Bush's rush to war even while the UN inspections were showing, what many of US here in Stump Town already knew, that Iraq was no threat to us, let alone an imminent one.

You'll also find many more who watched him address the Democratic Convention in 2004 and heard a politician express what they already knew to be true.

But it wasn't cultishness that brought these people out in such huge numbers. It was a celebration of spring, of our community and beautiful city while hearing a progressive speaker who puts on a good show. An enjoyable way to be able to say yeah we heard him speak in person before he became President and a good time was had by all.

19. What's creepy is Hillary still running with crowds of 100.
Seriously, you guys just need to quit the "creepy" stuff. I've looked at the hillaryis44.org and hillaryclintonforum.net and THAT is creepy. He's new, a lot of people like him and wanted to see the guy. It was a nice day and Portland is a great city for him. There is nothing wrong with that.

22. Here's something to chew on
Hillary wouldn't be where she is today without her husband. She most certainly didn't claw her way to the top, unlike, say, a Diane Feinstein.

She'd still be shredding documents in a law firm somewhere.

18. That crowd was wonderful to see. About time Senator Clinton pack
her bags and wrap this thing up. She is only prolonging the agony for a Democrat to take the Presidency. Is she enabling McCain?
