Are you part of the circular firing squad?
Did you march against the war, and are now considering not supporting Kerry because he won't renounce his war vote? Are you GLBT, and ready to vote for Nader, because JFK and JRE don't support gay marriage? Are you some other manner of 'single-issue' progressive voter who's considering doing the same because Kerry doesn't happen to agree with you on your particular 'hot button' issue? If so, then the idea of a second Bush* administration must be just peachy keen with you, because that's what your refusal to vote for Kerry is saying.

From one anti-war, GLBT progressive to another, all I can say is "Thanks a fucking LOT!"

:grr::puke::wtf:

2. Get over it, Blanche...
Just among us girls here....we can piss and moan a bit about Kerry and the Dems when they have to compromise or are not 100% behind our issues, but that doesn't mean we won't vote for him.

4. You've not been reading the same posts I have, Mary.
You need to read some of the whiny shit that's been posted here the last few days, if you think my 'take' isn't dead-on accurate.

3. Thank goodness the abolitionists didn't hold back from Lincoln
They didn't like or trust him in 1860, as Lincoln was no abolitionist. He called slavery evil, but pledged no committment to end it where it already existed if elected.

6. Lincoln also didnt believe in equality of the races
but he was part of the reason why black voters voted republican for nearly 3/4 of a century.

9. Sigh.
This shit is so hard sometimes.

Here's what I mean. I am very anti-war. Generally a pacifist, but defintely all for self-defense, when it is ACTUALLY self-defense. I think the world would be a much better place if we ALL got rid of our WMDs, us inluded.

I am very much in favor of IMMEDIATE and FULL GLBT rights. Tired of lip service on it, tired of the hate. It needs to happen NOW. I'm a straight woman and I believe "an injustice anywhere is injustice everywhere." I want my gay and lesbian brothers and sisters to live in peace and with all the rights, benefits and protections I enjoy. They deserve no less.

I am waaaay more liberal than Kerry (I shudder when people describe him as the most liberal person they've ever heard of for two reasons: a) they are quite ignorant, as you can name about five people more liberal than him who are in the public eye right off the bat--Kucinich, Sharpton, etc. and b) how FREAKING conservative ARE they to think Kerry is the world's biggest liberal???).

All that being said, I am able to see the forest for the trees. I am able to see that we are going BACKWARDS with bush and Kerry is a step in the RIGHT direction. The US is not going to let go of its military-industrial complex overnight or in one election and we are not going to wipe out homophobia overnight. But Kerry is definitely WORLDS better than bush and his cronies, who seem to want to take us straight to hell.

So I say get Kerry the HELL in there and let's start making some real changes. I am going to be on his ass like white on rice after his first 30 days or so (give him a chance to get moved in and all).

That'll be our chance. We move from there. In the right direction. Which is left. ;)

17. I could not
have said it better. Right down the line. I just saw Edwards today and I am so pumped. Did I agree with him on everything, NO! I was sickened by the statement yesterday about gay marriage, it makes me want to scream but we will get nowhere fast with Bush*. K/E will at least give us an ear on this and the other issues. Well said and thanks.

11. for some
i think it's more important what a politician says than actually looking at getting things done. for example, if Bush continues staying in office they think it's good enough to look back and say "at least i took a stand even though i lost".

but the thing i can't stand is the need for people to try to claim both candidates positions are the same just because they don't think the democrats go far enough in what they want. so they dismiss it as being just like bush.

i think the fact that kerry wants to give all the rights of married couples to gay couples in the form of civil unions is a big thing . i think once we can get this through there would be more acceptance for marriage. just as civil rights for blacks didn't happen all at once.

i think the fact that kerry understands iraq (and afghanistan) is a mess is important. the fact that he would listen to all sides and consider what to do rather than bush who makes decisions than finds people to support him even if it means making things up.

one of my big issues is abortion rights which kerry supports. but i remember seeing some posts demanding to know what the difference between kerry and bush was just because kerry said he himself is personally opposed to abortion and thinks life begins at conception. to them the fact that abortion rights would get support under kerry was not enough.

12. You know, there's been a lot more unity than disunity...
on this board of late. It sure would be nice if that continued, but as long as some folks feel that only their view has merit I suspect it won't.

15. I for one am sick of people demanding perfection from candiates
Find me when we have a perfect candiate because as far as I know, we will never have it, I am not cynical, I am just seeing reality. Kerry aint perfect but boy he's pretty damned good and accepts people, he's made some votes that Ive disagreed with but, Ive yet to find a congressman who will share my exact philosophy, dont think I'll ever find it, some act like congressional legislation just happens, you have to work to get it passed so even if Kerry did what you wanted him to believe, theres no certainly it will happen. I hate to sound cynical but damn, some expect the world, and its impossible to believe that, even Bush isnt the world to the right wing, some dont like him because of his pro Israel policies (the anti semtic wingnuts), his somewhat pro immigration policy, etc.

18. Absolutely.
Only two candidates even have a possibility of being elected POTUS--- Kerry and Bush--- and anyone who doesn't understand that, and the stark contrast it represents, is living in some alternate universe.

24. Nope, I'm with you 100%
The fact that we, the "base," are infuriated and frightened and fired-up enough about Chimp means that Kerry has the ability to work for the "center" in this campaign. As others have pointed out, the Chimp does NOT have that luxury because even his base can slip (he's not really "conservative" after all, when it comes to economic issues).

Let me tell you, I was born and raised a New England Liberal and I was scared to death during the primaries of nominating a New England Liberal because I didn't think the country was ready for it. I am SO happy to see the Kerry campaign doing so well, and SO excited that we may finally have someone as liberal as Kerry as president!! It's easy to complain that he's not liberal enough, but realistically, this is as good as it can possibly get right now, and better than it's been in a loooong time.

Progressive means making progress. This is the right direction -- the left direction -- and I'm looking forward to President Kerry!

25. Kerry has done FAR better than I had even dared hope.
His instinct for doing the right thing at the right time are almost uncanny. This is why I tend to look with ill-concealed scorn on those who suggest he and Edwards do things differently than they are now; "If it ain't broke, don't fix it".

27. Are you part of the "sell out my principles" squad?
I mean, really, it's as legitimate a question - in that neither really are.

Fact is, you'll never know how people here vote. What's the point in picking fights with people who don't share your opinion about Kerry?

I don't like Kerry. I'll probably vote for him, but you'd never know for sure if I did or not. That's the great thing about a (mostly) secret ballot.

So what's the point of this thread, other than flamebait?

I like your posts, but this one seems uncalled for.
