Hillary's Gift to the American People (and Barack Obama)
If we step back and really look at the Democratic presidential race for 2008, the gift bestowed by Hillary Clinton shines through. Her staying in the race has made it a better race with better candidates. She's tough, smart and relentless. Obama is a better candidate because he's had a competent opponent who is well versed on the issues. All the dirty laundry has been uncovered, viewed and washed clean: Reverend Wright, the questions of Muslim heritage, and the indictment of the money folk from Chicago. Yep, it's all out on the table and the television cameras have had their day now, not in October, 2008 before the Republican candidate. Her staying in the race made Obama's resounding loss in West Virginia palatable. Consider the fallout if he lost to a candidate that was not even in the race. That would have been hard to package even for the most skillful spin doctors.

Hillary staying in the race is really about a candidate deeply committed to the country and its people. What does she need this aggravation for? She's one of the most powerful Senators to come to Congress. She has a legacy of far reaching, bi-partisan legislation. Her husband's Clinton Foundation is impacting world poverty and health care. Her daughter is beautiful, smart and loves her dearly. Why would anyone submit themselves to the constant humiliation from the media, if they did not care deeply about the future?

I say it is because we have a candidate that at all costs believes that we can rebuild this country, and has a bone deep commitment to helping to make these changes. I say it is because she truly believes.

If we look back in years to come, we will see that her candidacy was remarkable and changed the face of this country forever. Hillary's gift to this country will be felt for years to come whether she is on the ticket or not.

I only pray that we are wise enough to take the gift of Hillary, and allow it to soar.

As an Obama Supporter, I say thank you Sen. Clinton, and all of her supporters. You strengthened Obama, and were major players in building a strong Democratic Movement. Over 35 million people(so far) casted a vote for a Democratic Candidate. Under 20 million for the pukes, with less than 9 million going to Grampy Mc Dubya.

We are ready to fight for the White House!

2. I agree. Thank you Senator Clinton.
It's obvious now that you'd never have beat McBush, but you helped our nominee prove his mettle.

5. I agree...
While there have been some distasteful aspects to this primary race, it has managed to bring out and defuse some issues early that could have been quite damaging if they hadn't come out until the fall. That is certainly something of value that has come out of this primary process, the fact that it has somewhat vetted and strengthened the potential Democratic nominee, taking the teeth out of issues that the Republicans would love to have had for the general election.

Regardless of who ultimately is declared the victor in this primary race, it is good to know that we will have a candidate who is passionate about putting the country back on a positive, forward-moving path rather than the one we've been steered on for the past 8 years.

7. Yeah, her negative shit came back to bite her in the ass and
Obama soared. Thanks hilary for being such a lying, pandering fighter for yourself when you didn't fight against bush one fucking iota.

We wouldn't be in Iraq if hilary and the Dems fought against bush like hilary LIED against Obama. All these people wouldn't be DEAD.

15. The DUer expressed an opinion of the CANDIDATE and you ...
Edited on Sun May-18-08 02:06 PM by TahitiNut
... attacked the DUer. A personal attack in response to the expression of an opinion is NOT civil or rational.

This has become common in this forum ... an apparent inability to maintain a MESSAGE focus and not a MESSENGER focus.

Example:
DUerA: "I can't support Hillary."
DUerB: "You're a sexist!"

Example:
DUerA: "I can't support Obama."
DUerB: "You're a racist!"

Throwing SHIT at the person expressing advocacy or opposition is a fallacy .. an ad hominem ... and betrays a fundamental flaw in one's reasoning processes.

A focus on the MESSAGE, however, can be valid ... even if there's an implication inherent in the analysis or deconstruction of that message.

Example:
DUerA: "I can't support Hillary because she's a female."
DUerB: "That's a sexist reason!"

Example:
DUerA: "I can't support Obama because he's a black."
DUerB: "That's a racist reason!"

See the difference?

22. It's probably a waste of time and effort on my part.
Even in the statement "I gave you more credit" is the focus on the DUer shown ... the presumption that someone's opinion of ME instead of what I say in my posts is of the slightest validity. It's the arrogance of parentalism ... the autocratic parent whose OPINION of the CHILD is of paramount import. It's poor parenting and even poorer social intercourse. I have sympathy for children raised uunder such a regime and no patience for those who'd deal with other adults in such a fashion.

Indeed, I personally see it as a form of emotional abuse. I've seen it in my family, close up and personal. I've seen it in psychological support groups ... and it's insidious.

10. Nice post.

There is an OP now that has Biden speaking in somewhat similar ways.

I believe her story in the history books will be written in positive terms.

11. Well that is how it turned out, but that's not why she did it.
She wanted to win at all costs. Fortunately, the kitchen sink she threw at him made him stronger, maybe not in the polls, but in anti-smear strategies and tactics.

23. in·oc·u·la·tion

1. The introduction of an antigenic substance or vaccine into the body to produce immunity to a specific disease.
2. A preemptive advertising tactic in which one party attempts to foresee and neutralize potentially damaging criticism from another party by being the first to confront troublesome issues.
