Hillary doing Obama favor by staying in race (Maybe they agreed to this)
Edited on Tue May-13-08 10:24 AM by Galway girl
I believe she will drop out after KY . Think about it Obama would lose KY and WV even if Hillary dropped out . This way he loses but can say Hill was still in the race. it would look worse if he lost to an empty field.

maybe Hill deserves the benefit of the doubt for once?

1. I think that's possible
Although she certainly sounds determined to go on...but it could just be a facade. Personally, I would rather her stay in until May 20, or even June 3. I think Obama's plan to declare victory on the 20th, if it's true, is a bad idea. He's better off waiting until June 3, when he is likely to win both primaries and can wrap it up on a high note.

10. Too bad she did not discover this tenacious streak during her senate tenure
I do not recall a lot of "push-back" against her "friends across the aisle" or Bush.. she seems quite compliant in the senate.

15. Good point, I don't remember any strong statements
that she made about anything.

Now, out pops this new person.

8. I disagree
Clinton no longer has a focus on pulling Obama down. There are many other reasons to campaign hard. Once a decision is made to not withdraw, it is hard to keep money coming in to pay some of the bills if she acts like she has already given up. And there is a simple matter of pride. She's been campaigning hard for over a year, and she seems to have given it her all for the last couple of months. How does she learn how to run on half speed for the last two weeks? There is an old expression; a job worth doing is worth doing well. Most of Clinton's stump speech now is about Democratic issues that she believes strongly in, why should she stop caring about them? When Hillary shows up at a campaign event there are people waiting to greet her who have given weeks of their time and plenty of hard earned cash to her campaign. She owes it to them if nothing else to fire them up and validate their support of her by taking campaigning seriously as long as she remains in the race.

And if Clinton can find a way to connect with some voters who are not yet comfortable with Obama, without tearing him down in the process, that is a good thing. It means maybe she can help Obama reel them in by November when she goes out there fighting for him as our nominee.

11. No, she is running ads
Bill is going to out of the way places to drum up votes. That costs money. They are still campaigning to win. It would be a terrible mistake for Obama's people to rest on their laurels now.

12. I know, but I still disagree

In addition to the reasons I noted above, Hillary has her future to think of also. It is only another two weeks no matter how you slice it. The additional cost is relatively minor in the larger scheme of things. The remaining contests are not expensive media market states. She wants to go out with a good showing, it's worth her effort to try hard to make that happen. If she travels around the nation acting like a defeated candidate she would have been far better off simply dropping out.

But I agree it would be a mistake for Obama to rest on his laurels now. If a for all practical purposes defeated candidate still has the mettle to campaign hard to the finish line, it would not reflect well on Obama to shift into neutral and glide to the finish.

7. Somehow, having her wandering around , sending out racist vibes
to her base...and I do mean BASE..in both senses... does NOT sound like something he would like all that much..

The only consolation is that every day she continues this pathetic charade, just lessens her future worth..

13. Then why isn't she....
Out there hammering McCain with the kitchen sink?

She and her surrogates are still pulling their junk. So let's see today if she hammers Lieberman for his latest bullshit. I doubt it and believe her behavior is strictly self-serving.

14. I feel like a "moran"
I hadn't even thought of it that way. Damn interesting thought. We'll never know but if that's Clinton's motivation then she should be honored in some way, even if in private so as to not release the tactic to the public who might see it as "dirty."
