Sadly, I detect racism by some Obama supporters....
This has happened to me on more than one occasion since I put my Hillary sticker on my truck. It happened again.

Wednesday afternoon I am at the grocery store bringing my bags to my truck. A group of 3 African-American ladies walk past me. One of them says something like, "Hillary my ass......I would not vote for that white bitch........." The others, while I did not hear exactly what they said, agreed wth her.

Again, this has happened several times to me.

Can you IMAGINE what the reaction would be if the situation I just described was EXACTLY the same----only the races of the people were changed? If a African-American had an Obama sticker on his vehichle and 3 white ladies walked by and said they would not vote for that Black so-n-so.

Racism is racism is racism.

It is disgusting in any form and it is vile.

I will vote for Obama and campaign for him. But, the underlying not-talked-about racism by SOME of his supporters saddens me.

it was the Hillary campaign who played the race card -- not the Obama campaign.

50. No
Obama boasts of black support. But it's fine when he discusses the demographics of the race, but Clinton isn't allowed to.

This is the continuation of the obama fan swiftboating of the Clintons as racists.

I think they're responding to Senator Clinton's words and actions, not her skin tone.
Similar to the way that I called my boss certain bad words for mistreating me.
No doubt my boss made me hate men for a while there... I got over it ;-)

7. This is sad and I can go you one better
I have coffee every morning with 8 black women (I am white) and have been doing so for the last 7 years. On nice days we take our lawn chairs outside and commence to engage in BS. Last week one of our neighbors who is white came by to say hello and ask if we were voting for Obama. All 9 of us said we were Hillary supporters. She looked at us and called us racist. Of course as soon as she left, I looked at them and said "I think she didn't notice what color you were." We all had a good laugh over it.

I love wearing my Obama-gear out around South Georgia. The only racism I see is from crackers who see me (6'5'' honky wearing shirts with Obama's face, name or both on them) and say something derogatory. I get all kinds of thumbs ups and fists in the air from African American Obama supporters young and old.

I love screwing with the heads of the white devils down here

What is sad is that the Clintons were wildly popular with african americans until just a short while ago.

36. Obama used race to win. Clinton's suggestion that he is unelectable has nothing
to do with race, just like Obama's statement that she cannot beat McCAin has nothing to do with the fact that she is female.

YOu Obama supporters hunt for racism under every rock and then when you can't find it, make it up (IE equating Elitist with Uppity).

Obama used shouts of "Racism!" to win SC. HE is the one injecting race to divide.

19. I agree with you that it is not right. I am black and I would imagine that those
people are either:

1. influenced by the media

2. truly like that.

Look, at one time the Clintons were REVERED in the black community and I think that the media has helped paint a picture of the Clintons as "secretly" racist. I don't agree with that, although the Clintons have played up this "white working class" more so than the Obama campaign playing up the black vote.

Because that would REALLY suck, considering white people are the dominant majority and all, and black people were brought here as slaves, and institutional racism persists in all sorts of vile forms to this very day, and, you know, every credible candidate for president in history until now has been white. Fortunately, we know for a fact that NO ONE who supports Hillary in the primary is doing so because of race.

But you can speak out against it and start a dialog to understand where people are coming from. You might gain new insights and appreciation for each others point of view.

You must understand that the tone of this campaign and Hillary's kitchen sink strategy was seen as a direct personal attack and betrayal by many blacks. Obama is certainly not perfect, he's a human being. There are plenty of legitimate issues to question him on, but in this campaign he has been subjected to a ridiculous array of negativity on topics and in ways that white candidates have not. For some doubtful white voters, it may have seemed normal or easily dismissed, but for blacks it was a painful reminder of their history and their own experiences running into barriers in the country (as I can tell many female Hillary supporters felt the same way about her treatment during this race, at least from the comments on DU).

On top of that, the later Clinton camp and media emphasis on how many black votes Obama has and how he can't connect with white voters, is really perceived as a direct insult to black voters and the value of their participation in the political process (and by extension, this country). Simultaneously, this argument is also seen as using the idea of a "scary" monolithic mass of black people as an attempt to strike fear and doubt in the hearts of more susceptible white voters, which is extremely offensive and painful. Doubly so, coming from the Democratic party.

I posted some statistics the other day. White Democratic Presidents have enjoyed 80%+ of the black vote in all recent General Elections and that huge support has never been questioned until now that we have a black candidate in the running. Many blacks are life-long Democrats and many were long-time, loyal Clinton supporters since the early days of Bill's Presidency. Hillary had the majority of black support going into this Primary season. Yes, Obama won some of them over by demonstrating that he was a legitimate candidate with early wins and appealing to them as a candidate who was more in-touch and could make a better leader. On the other side of the coin, Hillary's campaign has offended and alienated even more black voters and pushed them away. Understand that many long-time Clinton supporters feel heartbroken and deeply, personally betrayed by the choices of tone and tactics Hillary made in her campaign. For many, it seemed to contradict what they remembered of Bill and the good things the Clintons used to stand for.

This race isn't about who is the bigger victim out of two groups that have gotten the short end of the stick from society and history. In the end, it's about who will be the better choice to lead this country. As you know, there many factors involved in each voter's personal decision. Judging Hillary on an equal basis and choosing otherwise is showing her as much respect and validity as any other candidate.

The ugly racism and sexism does exist on both sides. I have tried to give you some insight into the emotions behind the offhand offensive comments you heard. I hope you might find yourself in a situation where you can actually open a dialog with people in person. Inevitably, you will probably find that you have more in common than not. Everyone is worried about jobs, their children and families, Iraq, health care, education and gas prices, regardless of sex, race, color, age or even party affiliation. That's why so many people want to see a Democrat in office, no matter which candidate they prefer.

Progress isn't easy, but nothing worth doing ever is. Out of this painful campaign season, a wonderful positive aspect has emerged, that shows America is finally ready to start moving forward and elect leaders based on their leadership and message rather than their sex, race or background. No one can argue that Hillary's support in this race was anything other than massive and historic.

I personally feel that there may have been a different outcome to this race if Hillary had chosen to go in a different direction with her campaign after Super Tuesday.

You have an alleged incident that leads you to conclude something *specifically* about Obama supporters. Then you whine about being a victim of black racism, and deliver a sanctimonious "racism is bad" message.

Yeah, I suppose there are incidents of bigotry aganst whites, but is this really a cause you want to take on? Because if you do, you have some strange bedfellows in your fight.

So you see how there's a certain level of mistrust about your post. It's easy to dismiss that as just the Obamabots, but so many times we've seen people cry "reverse racism" just to justify their own racist viewpoints that the arguement - no matter how true and how sincere you are about it - holds no water. You can thank the self-serving opportunists for ruining that one for you.

63. Sadly, I detect desperation by some Clinton supporters....
They have nothing positive to post about their losing campaign so they attempt to distract by anecdotal accounts of racism. Pathetic.

65. If you don't believe this story, go rent Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing."
Racism occurs in all shapes, colors, and creeds.

91. Tone and content.
Content-wise: I lived in Deep East Oakland for years and never heard an anti-white slur. Even on their own turf black people generally do not start trouble with white people, because they know how it ends. The times when I've been attacked by a black person, they wanted money from me, which maybe they thought I had because I looked white, but otherwise, race wasn't a factor. The idea of these women with absolutely nothing to gain from it attacking a white lady at the supermarket is bizarre, unless they are mentally ill, in which case their behavior is irrelevant to politics.

I'm not saying it never happens, or it couldn't happen, but the fact that it generally doesn't happen flags the whole tale in my book.

Tone: That's more slippery, harder to grasp. I heard little making-it-up bells jingling when I read it. You didn't? Well, either of us could be right. But I know from experience that I'm pretty good.

67. I've heard some racial slurs on the campaign trail from Clinton supporters
I had one guy tell me he just couldn't vote for a black man, and said "don't you think we give blacks enough for free in this country"?

Another woman called Obama "white trash", which I found particularly odd...how do you call a black man white trash?

I've been called a traitor to my religion by Orthodox Jews, been told to "go shove Barack Obama up your ass", and just yesterday I was called a "string bean" by a fellow DUer.

I've heard a couple nasty things about Hillary from Obama voters on the trail too, and I generally try to defend her when I hear someone say something about her that's not true or just plain nasty.

In summary, both candidates have some nasty supporters, including some who speak in terms that are racially charged. It's going to happen.

78. No one said there wasn't some ignorance on both sides
The difference is that you don't see Obama injecting subtle cues and references to it in his campaign speeches. Hillary is more or less hinging her chances on covincing the supers that Obama cannot win among white blue-collar workers. If Obama came out and said Hillary couldn't win the black vote, you know there would be backlash of monumental proportions.
