West Virginia is raring up for Obama and the campaign is opening up offices

There is no way you could convince me that we don't have Barack Obama supporters in our state.

Elena Bailey came in from Hinton to conduct the first Barack Obama field meeting in our county. We had what I consider to be an outstanding turnout with over 30 folks turning out to not only support Senator Obama, but to actually volunteer to work on his behalf in Mercer and McDowell counties.

Four folks from McDowell County who are all educators and one from Tazewell County in VA were at the meeting. Inspiring group of folks... the message comes out loud and clear. This group is willing to work their butts off to get Barack Obama in the White House.

As they introduced themselves I picked up a true feeling that this is an inspired group that honestly believes in Barack as a candidate.

By the way, one of the other organizers--Roger Lowe from Charleston, who has worked with the campaign throughout the country--was in awe of the number of folks who took time on their weekend to help get Barack Obama elected at this meeting.

The first goal for the group was to set up volunteer Precinct Captains, and to actually start canvassing TODAY . Target areas for the first canvass include Welch in McDowell County, and Bluefield in Mercer County.

There were several walk packs prepared, and plans are in place to make canvassing or phone banking happen literally every day between now and the primary.

It looks like the main goal of the Obama campaign is to get as much face to face contact with volunteers and voters as possible.

Many of those attending are actually getting involved in the process for the first time in their lives. A lot of time was spent demonstrating to everybody what is involved in actually getting the message across to potential voters. In the years I have been involved in this area I find that there are very few of us that have actually participated in canvassing and phone banking.

I think that the Obama organization is on the right track in working and training folks in the field to get Obama as many votes as possible in the state.

The WV and KY polls have Obama getting an average of 27% with 12% undecided
Edited on Wed May-07-08 08:53 PM by rocknation
Since Hillary needs to win ALL SIX of the remaining contests with 86% of the vote to beat Obama, even 35% of WV and KY would do Obama a LOT of good in the long run. It's because he hit his "magic number" of 45% of the vote in PA that he needed only 40% of the vote in IN--not the win. Now his magic number is 35%--get it? Do you think it's a realistic goal?

P.S. Thank you for your service.

7. Have there been volunteer efforts prior to today?
I know our State organized it's volunteers town by town and county by county quite a bit in advance, and the last 3 or 4 weeks we really hit the streets... have you had any success getting an early jump on it?

Hopefully there are volunteers from Kentucky on the Obama Kentucky email list & they've been able to get out....

I think I heard Obama's magic number is 36, I really like that number when compared to the alternative...

8. good news
However, I am really ticked that Sen. Obama has to go down to West Virginia and continue fighting in a primary he has already won...really. Sen. Clinton, it's time to end your campaign. Tonight John McCain is busy raising 7 million dollar at a nice cushy fund raiser.

9. do`t worry
according to axlerod, obama`s not running against clinton...he`s running against john...

axlerod has made the clinton campaign advisor's as impotent as a guy in a Viagra commercial...but there`s no pill that`s going to get it up for them.

actually it is a very good thing she`s still on the road..... if barack ignores hillary and goes after john.

obama needs to talk to these people and i think he`ll have a good chance to win them over..there`s not one dam bit of difference between the people in west virginia , the people in a ghetto in a major city, or a person living in a reservation on the plains..that`s the message he needs to deliver...

10. Thanks!
You are right. I'll think of Sen Obama as not wasting time in West Virginia, but beginning the GE in West Virginia. This helps lower my blood pressure!
