Empathy and Understanding for Wright
I wonder what it's like to be under death threats and therefore needing body guards for the first time in one's life, not to be able to turn on any cable news, ever, without seeing the image of oneself paraded on the TV screen night and day, while being accused of being a vitriolic, racist, provocative, white people hating, flag hating enemy of America, and on and on and on, for weeks now.

I wonder how it feels to have one's life work being torn apart by ignorant people who care nothing about the truth but are only interested in sound bytes.

I wonder what it feels like not to be able to protect one's beloved congregation from prying and intrusive eyes, like the dying women in the hospice (a member of the congregation) who was approached by reporters after the reporters found her name in the church bulletin.

I wonder if I would lose my cool or maybe even go a little crazy or say some inappropriate things.

Would I, if I had a chance to talk directly to the media who is responsible for this travesty, lose it and maybe lash out in defiance even if I tried not to?

I just think that Wright has been through a lot lately, and unfairly so, with the constant media attention and accusations, and I am not sure that the lime light is the right place for him right now, but I empathize with him in his anger and sense of injustice stemming from the last weeks' events that obviously expressed themselves yesterday in his address to the press club.

With the North Carolina negative ad against Obama, being aired, maybe Wright felt the need to come out. I just hope he does not lose himself all together, but finds the strength to return to his roots.

1. I do hope that Obama can repair his relationship with Wright.
I feel sad for Rev. Wright, also.

3. Wow. that's quite a take on Wright.
I got quite a different impression particularly after watching his performance at the Washington Press Club.

I have no empathy for a man who is consciously undermining, no, potentially destroying the best chance that a black man has ever had of winning the presidency. Tell me how that fits within your description of this man.

He was so gleeful at times during his speech and Q&A that he would have smooched himself on the cheek if that were physically possible.

That was no tormented mistreated man. That was an egomaniac so tickled, and so determined to further extend, his 15 minutes of fame.

4. All I can say is that it is hard to know
why people do what they do. Two people may see the same thing and get complete opposite impressions. I don't know what the answer is, and what his motives are, I just don't think that the last weeks have been easy on the man. I hope that he is not snapping and losing it. That's all.

7. It's a pretty sorry state of affairs alright.
I wish Obama could have toughed it out but I guess he's human after all. God I hate the bastards behind this.

8. Cranky Old Guys for Jesus and Incendiary Language - pissing off the man
I'm in love with Rev. Wright because he's an egocentric asshole, and a passionate, caring person... all in one.

He's a little bit like me.

However, he needs sympathy and understanding like I need a shot of heroin and a weekend pass in Bangkok.

If he keeps running his mouth at this time, he won't be able to sell personally autographed copies of his book in his OWN CHURCH.

Someone is gonna put a buzz in his ear. If he's like every other egomaniac, super church pastor I've ever met... he'll opt for the money.

15. I think they spoke last night, early this morning and he told Obama to do what he had to do.
I believe they will be okay.

11. THe death threats
should be dealt with by the authorities. He's not acting like someone who is taking such threats seriously, though.

12. I also have some empathy and understanding for Wright
I just think he showed poor judgment. It's been reported that people close to him tried to talk him out of going to the National Press Club. He chose not to take their advice. He was fine on Bill Moyers and at the NAACP Dinner. He could have given better responses to the questions that he should have known would have been asked.

13. He seems to be losing his judgment,
but don't people do that sometimes under duress or extreme stress?
