Hillary THE MEN'S LADY
This is a situation that I have warned my daughters to never to put themselves in,
drinking while a bunch of men are ogling you.
As a woman, I find these photos creepy.

Discuss this as well as the "Obama THE LADIES' MAN" thread was discussed.

Not very presidential.

but let's make a big deal about Hillary taking a shot. Talk about double standards. Do you remember BO having a beer with the guys in Penn. Na, guess not.

17. I have taught my daughters that certain situations are preferable over others....
Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 05:22 PM by FrenchieCat
Indeed, I have given them instructions that if they are the only females left at a party, they should leave.

I have told them not to drink stuff handed to them.

I have told them that drinking alcohol can impaire their judgment, and they should not indulge.

I ahve told them that they need to be in control of their surroundings at all time.

I think most mothers say these things to their teenage daughters these day.

Do you have any children?

23. Does it matter if I do?
Is my opinion worthless without children?

I certainly wouldn't expect the same behaviour from a 60 year old woman, that I would from my underage daughters.

Of course I'd tell my teenage daughters EXACTLY what you are telling your's.

I certainly wouldn't tell an adult woman that though.

29. No, your opinion is not worthless.....
I would tell my teenage daughters that they don't want to engage in the behavior I warnned them about ever. One can go from underage to a "cougar" (SNL term) without skipping a beat.

Just saying how it looks in those pictures, more than what it was.

51. FrenchieCat I agree with you 100%

Ladies in her generation do not do shots in a bar, especially if they want to be a role model for women, young and old.

And, if they want to be the first women President of the United States, that's not the image she needs.

this lame thread is 'old school' and attempts to set the women's right movement back 50 years

it is 'modern' for a woman to go wherever she wants and drink whatever she wants with whomever she chooses.

As, I'm sure, many New Yorkers will be glad to know they will have a senator for the next 4 years who can hold her liquor. Apparently in Russia she all but drank McCain under the table. That's pretty cool--a real throw back to the hard drinkin' Johnson years in the 50s & 60s. I admire that. I suspect such comraderie will do much to keep President Obama's legislation moving smoothly thru Congress. God bless her!

Further, I've warned my daughter to realize "you act stupid" when drunk.

Sure, you FEEL like your "a genius" but you REALLY come across as "a moron" when over-lit.

And yes, it's not fair, but young women must be ultra-careful because *some* (most of the young ones) can be hyper-sexual.

they are there.

If Obama can get slammed for talking about rural voters, etc.... because of how it sounds, elitist and such, I guess that Hillary is fair game for how those photos look.

Sounds bad = looks bad

89. The setting is a "bar"with men in it? So? I used to work with only men.
and my mothers law firm had only men. Were we not supposed to drink with them? Should I not have a drink with my husband's clients or his friends after work? There is nothing wrong with the setting OR the company but if someone is that insecure to think there is, that might be a problem.I even have some pics of me tossing a glass with my dad prp school reunion that looks remarkably similar to these shots and one of the guys is Sargent Shriver so I would say the "company" wasn't so bad.The message and perception seems really subjective and to find it negative seems really biased.I guess you would be opposed to my drinking with my Dad as I was the only woman. How very sad.

44. Beer is considered to be the working man's drink.
Many politicos are OK with being photographed holding a mug with 'the fellers' in a local pub.
But it's really more of a 'guy' thing.

And you won't find a glass of chardonnay in a typical blue collar neighborhood gin mill.

A shot and a beer is typically a hard core, hard drinking, steel mill/coal miner choice.

Most candidates wouldn't be caught dead, OR BE PHOTOGRAPHED, with a shot glass of Crown Royal in their hand, let alone throwing it down.
That will make a great repug 30 second TV spot for the fundie tea-totalers.

And she was 'dared' into it and took the dare.
Pitiful pandering to the nth degree.

And don't go all 'elitist' on me.
I've had my share of shots and beers and depth charges*.

*Depth Charge - Drop the whole shot glass of whiskey into the beer and drink it down.
;-)

But that's exactly what you get listening to the Hillary campaign.....
Folks talking about Obama cannot win a general election, like they actually know. :eyes: Predicting the future is big business these days, apparently.

84. Do you even try to see it from both sides? Like Obama's
campaign hasn't been saying that since last year about her. You set yourself up for disappointment me thinks.

crucial for the Dem party to get back, good for her.

74. for having a drink with the guys?
No

I have done so since I was 19 and have had a great time with great friends

The night I rode the mechanical bull was great, stayed on longer than the guys could

I enjoy a good time with my male friends, I don't care for prudish

66. I think it's a question of moderation
Throwing back one shot doesn't impair your judgment enough to put yourself in a bad situation. 6 or 7 is a different story.

67. What??? You realize she's doing that as a photo op? That she's running for president?

It's not like they caught her on a Saturday night down at the local bar tying one on. Sheesh.

This has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with what you are talking about, which is a serious situation. How you could even begin to compare this with a public figure running for president doing a photo op is beyond me.

81. I LOATHE Hillary but I think the OP is in poor taste and misses the mark.

And makes light of a serious situation. And just because she does it... remember how Obama didn't say a word about the sniper fire? He could have. And that's one of the things that makes me like him more as time goes on, whereas Hillary's actions make me loathe her more than almost anyone and when this all started I merely disliked her and distrusted her.

So stop making me defend her dammit! ;)

80. Prohibition is 'old school'
don't go to bars is 'old school'

ankle length skirts is 'old school'

don't compete with men is 'old school'

fear of men is 'old school'

separate drinking parlors for the men is 'old school'

don't speak out is 'old school'

you are not acting like a "lady" is 'old school' as a means of control of women

oh, and a burka is 'old school'

this lame thread is 'old school' and attempts to set the women's right movement back 50 years

It FAILS to do so for any modern woman or man that supports women's rights

women will not be allowed out of the house without a burka

they will not work with men nor attend school

under penalty of death
