So now I'm "dumb"...
after being told "To hell with me" and I can keep going on and on about how much the Clinton campaign has put me and voters down. Well I won't put up with it anymore. To hell with you, Hillary and Bill Clinton, you are the dumb ones for running a horrible campaign not I or the voters.

This has been a very long primary season, and it's wearing everybody out. I've seen some stuff around here lately that suggests that some posters need to be captured with butterfly nets and taken to the laughing academy.

I have read numerous threads by female DUers who intensely dislike the term "bitch" when referring to women, some of whom are Hillary supporters. I was wondering if you have been reprimanded for it.

42. Thanks for pointing that out, Swamp Rat.
No, I don't like the term 'bitch' randomly applied to strong women.

As one of the best musicians in history, Carlos Santana once said
at one of his concerts,

" Stop calling women bitches!"
( heard it with my own ears- ;) )

Love that guy! :loveya:

Luv ya, too- Swamp Rat!

45. I'm going to defend you for your sigline.
I see a few people trying to play "GOTCHA!" because you use the word "bitch" in your sig.

The context, however, is what they seem to be failing to take note of.

I'm not for censoring words... I'm for recognizing context. It's obvious that in the context you are using it, it isn't an insult. It's also obvious that when someone angrily uses that word about her, it's a whole other situation entirely.

Other than it being a wholly manufactured controversy about nothing, I knew that there was still enough time for Bill Clinton to say something really fucking stupid that would take some of the heat off of Obama.

Bill Clinton has been the greatest gift to Obama's campaign since YouTube.

If you're not a misogynist, it didn't apply to you.

And Clinton was complimenting an important demographic. To turn that into some sort of insult to you is really stretching.

28. Those young voters helped him get elected, back in the day.
I was 23 when Bill Clinton got elected. For me and all my friends, we felt like we were part of a movement, and we felt like our votes were valued. We felt like we were being welcomed into the process. By the same token, the Bush I campaign said this type of dismissive shit about all the young people who were helping Bill Clinton get elected. According to the Bushies, we were too young to remember how it was during the Carter and Reagan years --- that is to say, we didn't buy their version of events from those years. We didn't view Ronald Reagan is the savior of humanity, so were naive and stupid.

It's kind of funny. The Bill Clinton campaign song was "Don't Stop Thinking About Tomorrow." The new theme song seems to be "Yesterday."

Yesterday,
All my troubles seemed so far away,
Now it looks as though they're here to stay,
Oh, I believe in yesterday.

Suddenly,
I'm not half the man I used to be,
There's a shadow hanging over me,
Oh, yesterday came suddenly.

54. I don't think he was saying the Clinton era was not that great.
Edited on Wed Apr-16-08 01:23 PM by Mooney
I think he was saying that, despite the upturn in the economy that we experienced under Clinton, there were still a lot of working class people who got left behind, particularly people who lost their jobs because of NAFTA. This mirrors Clinton's 1992 campaign. At the time, it was considered heresy to imply that not everyone benefited from the economic reality of the Reagan years, but that was clearly the case, and Clinton said so, much to the chagrin of the Republican establishment.

It's not possible to look back on the Clinton era and characterize it as a time of economic downturn, because it wasn't. But it's true that a lot of people didn't benefit from everything that happened either, and I think that's what Obama was driving at. That's how I interpret it anyway.

I would think that Obama was smoking very strong pot if he tried to imply that the Clinton years were not an improvement over either the Bush I or II terms, because they very obviously and demonstrably were. I've spent a lot of the last eight years arguing with freeper types about this, since it's an article of faith among them that George W Bush inherited an economy in recession. We know that this is revisionist history at its most flagrant. But it's true that a lot of people got left behind.

There won't be any economic scenario that doesn't leave some people behind, but those that do fall through the cracks have a legitimate grievance, and I think that's what Obama was addressing.

52. Here's the ironic part.........
For the longest time the Democratic party has been trying to get out the youth vote, and now that a candidate can finally do it the "it's my turn" candidate tells us that we have no clue.

I was a twenty something under the Clinton administration, a Gen-Xer to be sure, and I remember how Bill said he wanted more youth involved in politics, and now that we are - he doesn't like it.
