Howard Stern having impact with crusade against Bush

Howard Stern having impact with crusade against Bush

WASHINGTON - Forget Al Franken. Democrats have a new champion on talk radio that they hope will counter the likes of conservative icons Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity. It's shock jock Howard Stern.

Known more for crude talk of sex and lewd acts than politics or public policy, Stern has launched an on-air crusade he calls a "jihad" to defeat President Bush. He blames Bush for a government crackdown on his use of obscenity on the air.

And he's having an impact, apparently boosting the prospects of Sen. John Kerry, D- Mass., according to a new Democratic poll released Thursday. That was welcome news to Democrats who've long ached for a liberal voice on talk radio and have watched in frustration as former comic Franken has struggled with a new program that has limited airplay.

"Howard Stern is the most influential political talk-show host in America today," said Michael Harrison, the editor of Talkers magazine, which covers the talk-radio industry.

1. Three cheers for Howard Stern
I've never listened to Howard Stern in my life, but anyone who can help defeat George W. Bush is O.K. with me.

6. Not everyone has to be.
Some people are liberal on some issues, conservative on others, or somewhere else in the vast middle.

7. I know I am, thank you very much.
I was going to vote anyway, but let me tell you, Stern's fans are a unique bunch, and I bet you that they largely will because Stern wants them to.

4. I like Stern. I've been a listener off an on for years.
I like that he's politically incorrect and will say things that many people think but are afraid to say. Whats ironic about this (him helping Kerry) is the leftists, many of which post on this site, hate him just as much as the right-wingers do. I just hope that if he helps democrats to take back power that they don't then turn on him and be just as bad as the republicans are. For republicans its his sex talk that gets him into trouble, and he criticizes religion too. But for democrats it could be his racial jokes, and the feminists don't like him either because of his antics with women. Unfortunately, both parties have their fair share of would-be censors. The fact that he upsets both kinds is why I like him so much.

8. I've listened to the show, and he REALLY goes after Bush.
Direct and tactless, as is his style. He talks about a lot about Bush's past and the way he oversees his administration. He doesn't just complain about the FCC, he's going after him on pretty much everything.

Stern talks to those who are normally not political. That is the advantage.

9. Those DUers who follow Limbaugh and Hannity: have they mentioned
Stern and his "jihad on Bush?"

Howard Stern is one that will bridge. I personally don't like him, could not tune out of his tv program fast enough (which I find to be really degrading to women), but he got my ear when they tried to censor him.... This may be a marriage of convenience for progressives and Dems, but so be it. I welcome Stern's getting the word out to those who might otherwise NOT listen...

10. I'll take Howard's support - even if it is inbetween talk of farts and
tits. I guess he's reaching the neanderthal crowd that we've been trying to reach for so long?! :P

12. Gotta respect Stern. As Churchill said about Germany invading Russia...
"If Hitler invaded Hell I would make at least a favorable reference to the devil in the House of Commons."
--Winston Churchill

Politics does indeed make strange bedfellows.
